My ignition barrel has given up the ghost on my SC and having just seen the price of a replacement I was considering wiring in a push button start system.

Anybody on here done anything similar?

Apologies if I'm missing the point - but surely you'd still need the new ignition barrel? Push button starts usually involve putting the key into the ignition barrel, turning it on and then pushing the button (apart from the new fangled cars with near field type keys).

I was thinking about ripping the whole lot out and starting from scratch. At the end of the day it's only a switch anyway

True. Although it's a switch you need a key for, which adds security. I'm not sure how your insurance company would feel about your car if anybody who got inside it simply needed to press a button to drive it away?
