You can always find an excuse, but if you want one you'll find a way. Great cars and only heavy at parking speeds.
Agreed, my other car is an old 70s datsun 240z so I don't really want to get something too close to that. Its great to drive around but not really suitable for driving around town or down to the shops. The idea of something that still feels old and analogue but comes with a few goodies like power steering does appeal.

Agreed Kevin, I think i'll wait a little longer. I'm sure something will eventually pop up that'll be perfect, it's just trying not to get too quick handed and buying something else!

I think if you want a 964 C2, maybe you should hang on for the right car. I have a beautiful 993 in my garage but the car I go to every time I want a hoon about is my 964. there is Something about it which I love. They are special things. If you really want a 964C2 id buy one. Anything else will feel great - until you see a 964C2 drive past. Personally, I prefer the LHD driving experience. Go with that and you have more buying options. The RHD market is more limited but if you prefer a RHD then go with it.

The Datsun is a LHD car which is great fun, but I think when using it daily, which includes having to stop off at a barrier for work twice a day, I'll need a RHD!

Kevin, that's gorgeous. Colour me jealous.

Well if your ever near WR11 or GL56 drop me a line and you can have a go in mine.

I can only go on what I found after owning both.

I kept my 964 for less than 18 months and sold it. I’ve owned my 993 for over six years and absolutely love it, especially driving quick on unknown roads.

I really do think you need to try both. Just make sure the suspension is up to spec on each.

The one thing I always did love about the 964 was steering feel, not so much the 993. Then I replaced the heavier airbag wheel with an RS one, and hey ho the steering feel was night and day better.

Whichever you decide on, best of luck with it. You can’t beat the sound and character of an air cooled 911 smile
Yes-
I also had a 964 for a few months but I’ve kept my 993 C2 manual coupe for 7 years and have no intention of selling it.
Firstly- Porsche had resolved the well known 964 oil leak problems by the time the 993 engine was designed.....I’ve found my 993 to be ultra reliable.
I do think as standard factory spec the 993 steering is a little bit uncommunicative compared to the older cars- but I took mine to CoG and asked them to make the steering more 964 and direct in feel and the car is now perfect for me.....it’s very go-cart in feel and fun on the B roads.
The best thing I’ve ever bought is my 993.

As Ben Collins says about 911’s:
don’t waste a thought about selling it, when you’ve got the right one keep it.

If you are near East Angia, I'm happy to take you for a run in my C2, it will give you an idea of what a modifed one drives like.

Whoah, that's low! I think the expression is 'slammed'? But how is it on less than flat B/C roads?

Up here in North Norfolk my 993RS was brilliant on the B/C roads, whereas my Challenge Stradale and my mates 964RS are not.

My 964 C2 has standard OE suspension. I've thought of doing similar to yours but nervous of how it will work on the roads up here.

I've just taken my 1993 C2 manual coupe to GT-one in Chertsey to sell. Recently re-built engine, bilstein suspension, sports seats and lightweight flywheel. Original cup1 wheels included. Extensive documented history. PM if you want more details...

The hunt is still on.

Hoping in the next few months I'll be able to make a purchase.. There's gone from 2 C2's for sale under £50k to 8, so hopefully that's a sign the market is awakening after the winter.

Will keep this area posted.

If it helps, I spent 18 months finding my C2 back in 2001. I finally found an ex-Adrian Crawford car he imported from Germany (so LHD) in 1998. I still have it.

Take your time, don't settle, but make sure you get a PPI before you buy.

Regarding the C4 don't forget that although it has an identical engine to the C2 it still weighs 100kg more. That's like having a 16 stone passenger in your car with you.

If you are every down in the SP2 region I would be happy to give you a spin - it comes in at just under 300bhp.

A friend selling his gorgeous 993 c2 for low 30s is very tempting... I had a drive in it and it was very smooth.. Definitely would require an aggressive setup to get closer to what I'm after. Trying to stay patient and not get too carried away at what appears to be a good deal

Thank you very much, I'd love that if I got the chance!

A c4 would have to be very special to buy in order to choose one over a c2... Still a little sore for not pulling the trigger on the 200k mile fully restored one that sold a couple of months ago for low 30s... On hindsight that would have been a great purchase as it had a full engine rebuild and a 10k body restoration.. That's 2/3 of its value just in that work alone! Unfortunately it was the first one I saw so I waited too long

That sounds very good value, but the devil is in the detail. Mine had a £14k rebuild including Lightwheel flywheel and RS clutch, and that was 4 years ago! I would not dream of selling it for less than £50K simply because trying to replacing it would be virtually impossible.

Good luck with the hunt.

This had the RS clutch and flywheel too.. It idled rough and stalled a few times when cold, possibly a vacuum leak or possibly a poor chip. It caused me to delay and ultimately missed the opportunity to grab it.

How do you find the RS setup? I'd be looking to drive it often so I feel that it may not be hugely appropriate

Might have a stab at looking at this one. It's a left hooker which doesn't bother me too much as my other car is too. I love the colour and Paul Stephens is a respectable dealer. I'd of thought at the mileage the engine may need a top end rebuild but apparently the compression tests have come back okay...

What else to look for in particular?

I guess the head studs could still be gone, which can only be checked with a head off inspection right?
Suspension, brake lines, etc may require work if they've not been looked at yet.

My mate has a couple in his workshop now. Crank is shot on one of them. Phoned Porsche to order a new one, part number now changed. They used to be £3200, now £10600 plus VAT smile. Just check it over carefully.
