I have been offered an immaculate 1 owner 914 for a very attractive price. Has anyone bought a 914 recently or has any knowledgeable advice or comments as to what are common faults or problems.

The owner is a friend of a friend and has just has a heart operation so is selling his collection - 2 x 911, 1 x 914, 1 x 928. He is a lovely man and I have no reservations about his honesty but, I don't want to buy a car which may have well-known faults or problems. As a girl, I'm not particularly mechanically minded and there are no specialists here (West Cornwall) so if anyone knows of any good reasons why a 914 is not a good buy, please speak up! smile

This car has a full service history, 53000 miles from new (1975) but is left hand drive and bright green (which I rather like) so the price may reflect it's appeal.

Call Williams Crawford, Saltash.

They have a very good restoration operation which covers all the older cars so they will have the knowledge to inspect it for you.

Immaculate, 1 owner, 53000 miles, full service history in bright green - seriously there are people who would snap your hand off to buy that. They were all LHD by the way.

Kevin is a real expert on the 914 so worth contacting him

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your advice. I took the plunge and bought the car. Last night I went for blast, down to Sennen and back along the south road to Penzance. Top off, heavy foot (well as heavy as my size 3 would allow) ! It was heaven. Thanks again xx

The 914 really seems to be coming of age and is currently very popular. So nice to see them out and about.

Congrats

sounds like you've had an awesome result - however (and predictably!)... could we have some photos please? I used to love the 914 "when I were a nipper"

Congrats! I had a 914 (albeit with 914/6 wide arch conversion and modified engine) and loved it. This was a few years ago now though and they certainly weren't as well loved as today.

I like that route too. Quite often take my E30 on early Sunday morning blasts in the summer months, before the holiday makers are up and about.

Almost a year on from buying my 914 and..... it is wonderful. Just had it's MOT and service - passed with no problems. Went for a blast up to St Ives... top off (the car.. not me lol). Cold air, cold blue Cornwall light, rush of adrenaline... One happy girl, lol.

Yes, let's have some pics please!

I also enjoy early Sunday morning runs out to Sennen. I will keep a look out for fast moving 914s smile

Mine are hibernating though, can't wait for some Spring sunshine!

Yeah, I'm up for that. Maybe we could get a few of us along, don't know how many PH's ers are this far down?

See you're a Bee-em man, I cut my teeth on them. First ever car was a 1502. Loved my 323i which followed it. My Dad founded the original CSL register back in the 80's, though I've converted him to Porsche nowsmile
