So looking to scratch the 911 itch, however going down the classic route I imagine can very risky. Not looking for a garage queen and something that will be run as a daily and doing low miles. Saw the following recently, I assume the dealer has had this car for a number of months and has reduced the price. Lack of dealer website is a concern and only a mobile number, but wanted to focus on the car itself.

Any thoughts/comments? really appreciate it..

Not sure I'd run a car like that as a daily, my concern would be rust, rust and rust...

That one looks OK

Get it checked out/inspected and if it's as solid as it looks then go for it

These, as with most "classic" cars benefit from being used on a regular basis

Keep on top of maintenance and have a back up fund for upgrades/expensive parts i.e. Heat Exchangers

and get on the impactbumpers forum too

You can never tell with the description but you'd need to find out what was meant by...

"The engine was stripped and rebuilt just 3000 miles ago by JCT 600 Official Porsche Centre. During this overhaul all the oil cooler pipes were replaced
at considerable cost and the rear crank seal being rebuilt."

Doesn't sound like an actual rebuild to me. If it was it would include a new RMS anyway.

And as has been noted, that's a whacking price for an SC and not how I'd spend 50k porsche pounds!

Good advert that, as the one thing I really need a photo of when I’m perusing a car with a view to buying it ?

Early 911's are a minefield many shiney examples hiding their rust well.

SC's and 3.2's are no different.

I'd also beware of high priced cars from some dealers, especially those who change their name.

Worth joining impact bumpers.com if you're looking for a good honest 'known' car.

Here's an entirely different take on the 50k SC...

Thanks all for the replies. The wife really wants a classic, ideally a 70's 911, but prices on these have gone through the roof.. So it really is a 964 or older. I personally prefer a 993, however she feels it is too modern looking.

So what would you chose? It has to be a classic 911 and original, used as a daily, I am talking 15 miles a day max, can be garaged during the bad seasons.

I would go for a 3.2 Carrera Sport Coupe

I know nothing about pre 996 but if you can afford that & have the back up to keep it running as a daily driver then your Mrs will be one cool cat.
I can only imagine the kids at my boys school faces as the line of endless Q7, X5 & RRS all pulled away to reveal that beauty.
A bold & brave choice but what a stand out car.

If it's as good as it looks I can see why you'd want to be driving it as a daily. I'm a firm believer that cars are all the better for being used and I've run 70's and 80's cars as daily drivers for the past 30 years.

Have my 3.2 up for sale at the moment. Can't say I've made much effort recently as the few times I've had it out on the few sunny days we've had, I've realised what a fantastic car it is.

I bought it as just shy of 100k miles as I wanted something to drive and use as it should be used. I think 70k is classed as low mileage these days.

I run my 1980 SC as a daily, well, once all the the salt has washed away I do. Not as good as the one in the ad, and quite a bit cheaper. But it's great fun, fast enough, handles well, goes over speed bumps and small enough to park just about anywhere. Good to look at too.

They make fantastic daily drivers. I'd suggest looking at either an SC or 3.2 Carrera.

I ran mine for circa 7 years as a daily in all weathers (winter salt and all, not advised).

74,000 miles on a car from 1980. So that means its done less than 2000 a year !

I would be concerned about that. Also for that money you could get a more recent car that's still a 911, which would be great for a daily drive and still give you years of trouble free ownership.

A more recent car isn't what the OP is after though is it?

Agree. My first Porsche was a 205bhp SC, used as my daily, in London, and maintained by Charles Follett and Malaya.

Although that's a nicely presented ad, I'd be looking for a G50 3.2 Carrera - still one of my favourite 911s - better engine, gearbox, heating, and numerous little detail improvements. But, as advised, buy carefully and have it PPI'd.
