911 SC 1980 - thoughts/views?
Discussion
So we saw the car yesterday and spent around 3 hours down at JZM. They seem like a good bunch. The car itself was stunning, looked very clean and test drive did not bring up noises or rattles. The history file was very comphrensive, full A4 folder worth. The only downside was MOT’s certs missing from the first 3-4 years, however plenty of paperwork to back up service and repairs during that time. Having never owned an older 911, what are the things I need to look for? as I think most of the obvious maintenance has been undertaken. The wife is really smitten with it and loved the test drive. Do I need to get an independent pre-inspection?

Yes I'd get a PPI.
Try Jaz in St.Albans.
Good shout, have put a call into Jaz and the whole process seems straight forward and they mentioned they have had plenty of cars from JZM for PPI in the past.. I think I may want to pop over again to JZM, as there was so much paperwork on the car, just so difficult to consume it all. Try Jaz in St.Albans.
In the front trunk area, I suspect I should see an air compressor box, toolkit? anything else. Only remember seeing the spare wheel under the carpet.. Sorry for the questions, complete novice..

Thanks, I am hoping Jaz will call out specific items that are missing as part of the PPI, however the dealer said all of these items will be included.. Talking of values... went over to Hatfield Porsche to have a look at this to compare condition..Join impactbumpers.com - only one rule, do not discuss values....

I can only think the OPC are opportunists, unless it was previously owned by someone very famous, do not get the price tag. It was in nice condition and had some nice extras, I would expect this price for a much lower mileage example and maybe the same owner from new...

My first Porsche was an '83 911SC, bought with 5,000mls from the local OPC in the '80s.
Nice, non-Sport model, used as my only/daily, in London during the week, and the country at weekends. Had a new 911 every 2-3 years since, so been through all the variants.
IMO the G50 3.2 is a much nicer car - better engine and fuel metering, smoother and better driveability, much nicer gearbox and hydraulic clutch, improved heating/ventilation and other tiny refinements make a noticeably better package.
Lots of affection for the G50 3.2.

Hopefully close to finalising the deal on the 3.2 Carrera, the inspection did not turn up any nasty items, however inspections are always going to create some drama with the dealer. I think surface corrosion will need to be sorted in the future and a few bits and bobs..
Still quite nervous and excited at the same time..

You do realise your Mrs will be fancied by every passing petrolhead if she uses that as a daily :-)
I know... also with the silver colour and the teledial wheels, being a non-sport, I think will suit her more.. I think the inspection was well worth it for piece of mind. I know on these age cars there is always something to do or replace, you can't expect perfection without having to pay seriously over the odds. This has been a huge learning curve for me..

I had a look at a car I fancied at the very plush showroom at JZM. I was absolutely appalled when sales director Rus stood by and allowed his engine builder employee to spend 2 mins libeling probably THE most highly rated 911 engine builder in the UK (who it is impossible to find a bad word said about online (PH, DDK, IB etc) and who is a genuinely great bloke) all for the sake of trying to persuade me that they should do any engine rebuild that I fancied. Walked out in disgust.
Well if it was the ‘legend” who rebuilt one of my early 911s then it may not have been slander Gassing Station | Porsche Classics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
