Would like to understand fellow owners approach to storing their classics? I have found a decent place, luckily very local and reasonable. Is it as simple as just playing it by ear on the weather front before you put it away for hibernation?

I appreciate that the salt on roads needs to be avoided, however I suspect they start doing that when you have frost/ice warnings. Any advice on what others do is much appreciated. Also any tips around preparing it? Good wash and wax, over inflate tyres, buy trickle charge etc..

Thanks G

Both our 911s live with a friend of ours who has a modern barn range in which some other 20 cars live and they begin their hibernation in September each year and the less valuable ones then take the strain over the winter for those occasional bright clear winter days for hooning etc..

Enjoy

September?? Madness...

Gio - these cars need to be driven. Yes, avoid salt, but you won’t see any until late Nov-Dec

For storage I would:

Use a trickle charger
Some recommend fresh oil
Tyre mats to prevent tyre flat spots
Full tank of fuel with Stabiliser added (Stabil do one)
Coat fuses and electrical connections with gt85 or similar protector
GT85 on the wheels

Thanks - some great pointers.. The GT85 on the wheels? I usually use it for my bike chain... it stops corrosion?

The salt is a big concern, I know around our local roads they start to put it down when there are signs of potential frost in the mornings..

Gt85 works well on the original anodised rims. It’s a great cleaner of brake dust too - spray carefully avoiding the discs, naturally.
Lots and of uses, just like wd40 - works well in the engine bay too. Cleans up plastics and metals and leaves a thin coat of protection.

If you have anodised finish, best to rub Vaseline in first and leave overnight - rub clean in the morning. Use the GT85 as a maintenance spray.

Vaseline helps restore dull finishes apparently and I believe is mentioned in the owners manual.

I'm fairly conservative re salt so it goes away at the first sign of frost as the salters come out then.

However I've never bothered with any prep. It goes in the garage at the start of winter and drives out in the spring. No flat spots, no corrosion, no trouble starting or running.
