A little research tells me I might be able to get a “Porsche Prince Car seat” - assuming I can locate a used one on eBay - into the back of an Air-cooled 911.

I’m currently on the hunt for a pre 993 generation air cooled coupe. Does anybody have any experience of taking their kids around in the back of one... or even the front, now and then?

I’m thinking 964 at the mo but quite fancy an early SC if a car seat will fit.

Any experiences shared / advice appreciated!

Thanks

Babies - no. We didn't bother with a baby seat; we only took them in the car from when they could sit on booster seats.

Small children - yes. There's a certain shape of booster that fits perfectly the 993 and earlier coupe rear seat... shape. I'll dig out what mine were. Booster not child.

They love being in the back - it's cosseting.

When they get tall enough to touch the rear screen with their heads, it's time to set them free. Though that would be illegal. Early teens if I remember correctly.

I bought a Britax Romer same as the Porsche Prince and sat my daughter in it. It isn't very comfortable so never used it.

We had a Maxi Cosi which I could stray rear facing into the front seat of my old 3.2 Carrera.

When they get bigger the rear seats are entirely usable. Although my 996 turbo seats are much better with proper 3 point rear belts.

Try this link for a view on the Prince in an SC.

Thanks for the advice guys. Our daughter is 5 months old so she’s in a maxi cosi pebble at the moment in the back of our Q3.

Sounds like I could travel with her in the front seat if need be as there are no front airbags to worry about. I think it’s the next stage that is tricky as the Britax doesn’t sound like a very comfortable option.

Once they are a mite older, the rear seats are quite accommodating; our daughter loves ours still.

I’ve a later 993 and searched the 911UK forums for various seats, eventually buying a rear facing baby seat that fit then a ratchet type forward facing seat as the first child got older. Eventually replaced both with Halfords own brand seats that fit in the narrow squabs. One concession is to strap the seatbelts into the opposite side holders as this seems to secure them better.

This is the one with the ratchet mechanism, he’s outgrown it now (used it from around 10 months to 2.5 years), it’s for sale for what I paid for it from the forum if you’re interested.

If they fit a 993, I think they’d fit a 964. I’ve also a Quinny Zap pushchair that fits in the front....
