Obviously it's me that requires the psychoanalysis.

This is a follow-on from my 'has anyone tried Brembos on the 993' - I tried to get some at a ridiculously cheap advertised price, but (after ordering) were told they were not currently available - so I bought the Sebros again from ECP/carparts4less for about 120 GBP delivered for the pair.

I fancied the Brembos as they advertise a special glossy UV coating on the hats that withstands time/salt/corrosion and still looks fab years later. The Sebros just have grey paint.

I have some Brembos on the Subaru, since 2014 and have done 60k miles on them, and unbelievably still show almost no lip... and the hats still look like new if I ever cleaned them, which I don't.

The old Sebros on the 993 hats paint is now grubby and worn - oh the shame. I can't even bring myself to photograph them.

Anyway - the Brembos came back available for a RIDICULOUS price, so I bought some anyway.

You can see the Brembo coating process is more sophisticated than the Sebro painting - which looks like they paint the whole disc (properly) but then sand the paint off of the faces.

Manufacturing looks identical (both discs weigh 8.1kgs)

Brembo has marks stamped in the hat

Sebro has no marks, other than a useful L and R.

...but the Sebro wins on packaging... do we care?

Management Summary

Manufacture looks the same, weight identical, I'd choose the Brembos every time on their hat-coating process.

The RIDICULOUS low price is simply icing on the hat.

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing this.

May I ask where you purchased the Brembo discs?

Hey PP.

When looking for parts, I always look at ECP/CP4less (same company) and GSF to start with (then Autodoc etc etc), and it was GSF who have the ridiculous offer price... but they are now out of stock again.

I wonder if the Indies buy up all of the stock when it's on offer like this?

GSF may come back in stock (for home delivery) if you keep watching.

Many thanks OC,

I don't actually need any right now, but will keep a look out for pricing and buy when they are cheap.

I think some of these sites also operate some sort of surge pricing algorithm.

All good - but as GR says, they are available again. Same ridiculous price. I mean seriously. Buy some to keep fruit in, or to throw at next-door's dog when it barks late at night..

Ordered some fronts. Will keep them as ornaments until I need them smile. No rears shown as available.

Er ... don't be surprised if only one turns up.

Spent 45 minutes on hold but did get my money back.

I'm informed the reason they were cheap was to get rid of stock, so a price not to be repeated. Autodoc have the same discs for £76 a pop.

I'd keep trying.... first attempt at purchase I also was given a refund... almost before the money had been taken, which was good. So very little chance of being left out of pocket.

Let us know if you spot any cheapos hehe

They are 80 GBP on Autodoc at the moment - however, the Pagid version are showing as oddly cheap on ECP, but my 993ness won't let me have different makes of disc front to rear - stupid I know.

I must have got one of the last sets of fronts from GSF. They are now showing as out of stock and price has gone up to £31.55. Still good value if you can get them.

Autodoc still the best price for rears. I'll keep looking. I share your 993 OCD. I like the finish of the hubs on the Brembo discs, so want them matching al round.

BTW Textar pads are less that £30 per set from Frazerparts. They don't list them as Textar on their website, but advise me that is what you get when you order.

993 maintenance for near Ford Fiesta money!

I’ve been running these Brembo discs with textar pads for 3 years and 8k miles ish. No rust or corrosion on them and the car stops well. Although car is garaged and brakes dried after washing.

Win win at this price.

This might be a silly question, but you dry your brakes??? How do you even do that?

Back on the discs, these look amazing value even at the £30 odd quid each if they're ever in stock. I have a bit of brake judder and suspect I need to replace discs to solve.

He means he drives the car after washing, gets the brakes to do some work, and the heat generated will dry discs/pads/calipers.

Phew. My slightly lubricated brain had visions of him putting the car on axle stands after every wash for a wheel-off all over and under dry and polish!

So I think (fingers crossed) I've managed to get a pair of front discs at the ridiculous £11 each GSF price. Does anyone have any info on finding a good deal on a matching pair for the rear?

For the record, I got the Brembos for the rear from Autodoc. Best price I could find for a pair that matched the fronts. They were £157 delivered for the pair, which feels like a rip-off, but only because of the ridiculously low price of the front discs from GSF!

£253 all in for discs and pads all round doesn't feel too bad to me. Callipers don't look that great which is hardly surprising given the miles, so I'm going to clean them up, paint them red and reapply the Porsche graphics whilst I'm at it.
