Evo are calling the car a 'gamechanger'

Be interesting if and when they pitch it up against the 991 GT3 or forthcoming RS

So this game changer......That is slower then the F12.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRo5u77Exdc

The current 12C will run rings round a F12 on track, and it looks like the 991GT3 on track at least is just quicker than the 12C, and the TTS is faster than all of emm

Game changer....nah, don't

I doubt the TT will be quicker on track than any of them, no other turbo Porsches have been that good on track previously. The point the journo's are making is that its a balanced naturally aspirated car not a turbo jobby and it's actually fun to drive that's something two of the cars mention supposedly lack. Anyway what do they know hey, they only do it for a living!

Game changer in terms of enjoyment and FUN or just lap times ????

All this performance and lap time talk is wasted as far as I'm concerned.

Yes you want power, speed and handling all together in a fun package for the road but these cars are probably faster than some of the F1 cars of yesteryear and are going to get nowhere near their capabilities on a public road.

They are becoming so capable that your spirited sunday am hoot is no longer pleasureable unless you are doing warp speed

I think you guys are completely missing the point here.

This has nothing to do with bragging rights over absolute performance. If that is the game you want to play, get a GT-R with a stage 5 tune and have done with it. You'll be king of the hill.

Why are some journos calling this car a game-changer?

It is not because of its performance. They already accept that it is barely faster than an Italia.

This car is apparently a game-changer for the simple reason that it combines handling and performance to a level of user-friendliness that so far has never been achieved.

The key to this seems to be the slip control - the ability of the traction control to allow the driver to get over-steering hoonage without binning it.

The car is a game changer because it makes the driver feel like a hero without having the skills of Chris Harris or Walther Rohl. This is why the the car is apparently a game-changer as far as some writers are concerned.

Sutcliffe is claiming this is the most fun-to-drive Ferrari that has ever been made.

Sounds good to me. I intend to try one for myself and see what they mean.

Who mentioned laptimes ?

Anyone who is enough of a bellend to do trackdays in a 458 speciale will prolly be at least 10 seconds off the pace in any case.

I take that above point, But at this level performance bragging rights are every thing......and on the numbers the 458SP is even on the field

IMHO
Rubbish IMHO.

The Speciale is interesting because it is reported by come to be the most fun to drive car Ferrari have ever made.

If you want bragging rights get a 991TTS or a GTR. Or grow up by 10-20 years.

Any sane person ( or indeed, most people actually in a position to buy a Speciale ) will not care one iota that the speciale may be slower to 60 than a 991tts.

The performance of the speciale is more than enough. What matters is that it seems to be a hoot to drive. This could never be said of the 991tts in comparison. You totally don't get it.

Thing is.. I suspect apolo1's (or whichever username he's using) criteria for a car is probably closer to what sportscar buyers do end up wanting than what you consider a sane person would want.

Like it or not, actual driving enthuasiasts probably don't make up that large a part of the target market for those cars any longer and as manufacturers show no sign at all of stopping their performance numbers/lap time war, it is because they believe that those figures help to sell cars and they are probably backed by fairly serious amounts of market research...

Sadly I think you may be right.

APOLO probably likes to keep the logo lable on the sleeve of his jacket as well.

He is probably thinks about having a little laminated card put on the back of a car listing the performance numbers and the price for everyone to read. That way everyone know what a remarkable person the driver must be to own such a thing.

"Bragging rights" he calls it. I think many people have a different name for it . wink

Bragging about cars. There is nothing more pathetic. People bragging about their cars is what started this 'small penis syndrome' generalisation of all us sports car owners.

Driving is everything. It's like wine. You have a nice looking vintage bottle with a barely pronounceable name, but at the end of the day it's down to how drinks. What it tastes like. Some however are more interested in telling people what they drank and how much it costs. Lame.

I fully agree, albeit respectfully you are missing the point

we are taking about performance bragging rights here, with regard to P, M. F, or what ever. It matters it matters big time . Why do you think P put so much effort into the ring time....
Frankly, you are revealing your true colours again with your comments on the 458 speciale. Bragging rights are more important to you than driving - that isn't what this site is about.

When a car like the Speciale comes along and respected writers say it is perhaps the " the most fun to drive Ferrari ever " then most enthusiasts pay attention and want to know more.

Instead, you seem concerned that it loses "bragging rights" to a 911 turbo and so reject the car.

Believe me, this says more about you and your attitude to cars than it says about the cars themselves.

You're not really a driving enthusiast.

Nope.....just pointing that the 458SP is not as fast as they would like you to believe. Sutts is not a respected writer in my eyes....He tells untruths.....

Personally I have no interest in performance bragging rights....

At the end of the day each to their own....
Sutcliffe isn't the only one saying what a hoot the Speciale is. This is unimportant to you it seems. Fair enough.

And you are contradicting yourself so much it must be hard for you to keep track.

I am off to Fiorano in early Dec to try the 458S, I think it is highly unlikely I won't absolutely love it. This could get expensive.

I just hope it doesn't have that silly 'farty' valve thing that has been the curse of the 430 and 458 standard models. You know, 4k on the revs and it suddenly sounds like underwater flatulence. To be fair the CS and Scud didn't have it so I am hoping the same applies here.

Glad to see the usual suspects have some time off from writing for the Daily Mail laugh

Surprised no one is taking in the engine stats on the 458 Speciale, 14:1 compression ratio! 132 bhp per litre, 9000 RPM on a warrantied Production Engine!

The Speciale could well be the last of the N/A to be released by Ferrari, end of an era if so. Could be quite collectible wink

Because Porsche are having trouble selling the 918.
I've been asked twice now by Porsche GB to be flown out to Spain to drive the 918 in an attempt to get me interested. But regardless of its speed or lap times the car does nothing for me.

At the launch of the LaF it was known that the mclaren would probably be quicker round the track, but the LaF quicker in a straight line.... However I don't know of a single LaF customer that has cancelled their car due to the 'bragging rights' not going in their favour for supposed lap times.

Have you decided what colour you would have if you pull the trigger? If so I suspect you're doomed!
