Build cost must have exceeded the car's true value at the time. Wonder how it performed.

I know quite a lot about this car as it was next to my desk for two years in a showroom I worked at. The secret is in the engine number (assigned to a write off of a 412). Nigel Mansells Ferrari Dealership may have traded it but it was never Nigel Mansells car. The Nick name came from a guy in wigan who inflated its price by adding the Nigel Mansell link. Its just a 308 that had a engine problem and someone not Ferrari had added a V12 from a broken 412. Its been 15 years since I have seen it and it did have paperwork from the garage that fitted it. (Some engineering company and definitely not Ferrari)
It was almost swapped for a Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch once (one of 57). I dont know what happened later but it was never Mansells own car or modified by Ferrari. It was about 20k 15 years ago. The Clutch was knackered and a nightmare to fit a new one.
Alot of one of Ferraris are fakes there was a Lord that eventually got done for insurance fraud that was modifying damaged and stolen cars to make them worth more. To be fair some were very nice but you need to check with Ferrari if its a one off. They have photos of most cars.

biglaugh

I bet it was. Imagine what a beating the transmission was getting!

Thanks for details; I've always wondered the real story behind this 308 & long suspected Mansell never really set his eyes on it never mind oversaw it.
