I've been asked to look after a friends new 458 for six months.

Given the very low mileage, I wonder if it's better left undriven? It will be in a heated and dehumidified garage with some other cars I have....

I could drive it if I wish - but am quite happy not to. I'm merely pondering the whole 'wear' thing of starting up occasionally rather than not starting up at all.

If you have the green light and the roads are dry and salt free I would give it a decent spin every couple of weeks. Better for the car that way.

We are both interested in opinions. I can drive it whenever I like - that's not the issue.

There is a school of thought that sub 5k engines can be left undriven as there's less wear introduced.

I guess it does not matter a lot either way for 6 months especially as new, many cars sit in and around dealerships for a lot longer, ditto I am sure many cars on here spend the winter in hibernation.
Also if you were to prang the car it's probably a good way to end a friendship .

Although its not too dissimilar with other things I have had.... I've driven a couple of 458's.

Depends how you store it and how you use it. I would personally drive it every now and again. Keeps the fluids circulating and the battery topped up. Also, if you leave it in one spot too long then the tyres will flat spot which is not a good thing. Dry, salt free days, I'd drive it about 20 miles or so to get it warm. Do that every couple of weeks. It adds up to 240 miles over six months . Not value changing.

I've stored cars for 6 months, I never start them but just leave them on a battery conditioner. No problems in 20+ years.
