I was trying to upload a picture or two for you, can't get it to work, it's a pity , there's nothing better for encouraging a fellow enthusiast to take the plunge, perhaps a few others will be more successful.

I bought an F 430 last spring, used it lots with no nasty reactions. The only thing I have to watch out for is people touching it, they don't mean any harm, they just can't help themselves, leaning on it for a picture or stroking it. I'm delighted to share the enjoyment of the thing so I just try to slip it into conversation not to touch it without sounding like a complete psycho!
Nobody has scratched it, just a few fingerprints to clean off now and then.

Just remember to change gears below 2.5K rpm in built up areas and you'll be fine.

In the summer a knob in a Califonia went down my high street without changing out of first. I was on foot. It made a racket and everyone must have thinking what I was thinking....knob. He pulled up at some lights, his top was down and I was nearby. I suggested his car has gears and perhaps he could bloody change them occasionally? He replied I was jealous that he had a Ferrari and I didn't. Knob.

I've had nothing but posiive reactions since taking the plunge last summer.

People want to hear you rev, they film you at petrol stations, they walk up to you and shake your hand. When you park up some people are just staring into the engine bay when you return....

If anything, you get too much attention.

I agonised over what to buy (I had a Boxster S at the time). But after agonising it came down to the following: 355 Berlinetta Manual. 360 Spider Manual. F430 F1 Spider.

Guess what I bought....

I have no idea on depreciation, but the best advice I ever received was 'buy the best you can afford...' - that's not necessarily the most expensive, but the best you can afford for the budget you have set.

I've only had the car a month or so, but all positive so far.

2 out of 3 times I've filled up somebody has come up and talked to me, last time a couple of chaps were incredibly excited and I let them have a sit in the drivers seat whilst they took photos of each other.

These cars are to be shared with others, and if on the rare occasion someone has bad things to say to me then id hope I'm big enough to ignore it smile

I am two months into a switch from a TVR Sagaris to a California. The TVR was fabulous, loud and extreme although I did become a little tired of comments about reliability. The response on the road was always positive. I have been pleasantly surprised by the the response to the Ferrari so far with plenty of positive comments, pictures on motorways and thumbs up from other drivers and pedestrians. Probably helps that its in TDF blue rather than red and hence a bit more subtle. I would say that the W.....r tag associated with drivers of Ferraris has changed and the brand now seems to be getting the respect it rightfully deserves. Go for it and if you get derogatory comments its probably from a complete idiot or because you are driving like a tw.t - and thats not down to the car! smile

I assume you are part of "the public" so you probably just mean "other people"?

At a show you might be an exhibitor looking for reactions from "the public" but if you're just driving around it sounds a bit condescending to me to refer to other people as such.

Just the wrong choice of words on my part....Not meant to sound derogatory, sorry if it did.

Thanks for all the replies so far, Just what I was hoping for.

No worries, I thought that would be the case. Just wanted to point it out, as if/when you do get yourself a Ferrari you'll probably need to work even harder not to draw ire of "the public". wink

Sold the Griff 500 a year and a half ago. As you say, you mostly get very positive feedback from others when in a TVR. The Griff is still one of the best soundtracks ever. With the 360, I have not really noticed any difference - still mostly thumbs up and people talking to you at the fuel station. The chap who sold it to me said he got a lot of abuse, but then he was driving it in Birmingham.

But, as many have said above - ignore any abuse if you get it. Just enjoy.

I've been in the ferrari club for 6 or so months now. It gets plenty of attention which makes me feel a bit self conscious, but I'm racking my brains and can't think of any bad moments. People take pics, slow down in the lane next to you, come over at petrol stations etc etc. I used to worry, but to date it's all been fine. The ones that I now like most are the guys in specced up cars (hot hatches, M3s usually) who slow down in the outside lane and then give me a big thumbs up. Love that - proper petrol head behaviour.

Its only human nature to feel good when someone looks at something of yours and is clearly impressed, can only agree with most of comments above, I've had my rosso corsa 599 for 4 m now, seeing the look on kids faces from their car windows or the street as you pass by is fantastic. lots of people taking photos, next guy (or girl!) at the petrol station will just start talking to you about the car etc...

Just one guy mouthed w****er to me at a junction. Another time two guys in an audi A4 convertible pulled up along side me on the dual carriage way, kept accelerating off and dropping back again quite aggressively around me and then pulling in front of me etc.. not in a pleasant sort of way at all. I didn't respond or acknowledge them at all at this point. We ended up at a traffic light junction, still on a dual lane section of road side by side. When light went green I floored it and left them for dead, felt really bad afterwards, just couldn't resist it. Have never done anything like that before with my previous cars, shocked myself really.

Cheers.......I'm not a party pooper......one of the best moments of 2013 was me in my 599 GTO, alongside another 599 GTO and an Aventador, 3 in a row in a tunnel. With the Lambo spitting flames a few feet from my seat, the combined noise was hilarious. Other road users were winding down their windows, several with passengers were taking pics. Right time, right place. Huge fun.

But in a crowded street in slow traffic, with someone running at high rpm in first, why other than being flash, with 99% of the public thinking complete knob. What's the fun in that?

As for the plonker in his puffed up California, Apart from barking at him that he should use his bloody gearbox, I wasn't going to waste time explaining why his subsequent analysis couldn't have been more wrong. I knew and that was sufficiently sweet. If you're fortunate to have a great car, use it appropriately and you'll never have any problems, indeed from experience quite the opposite.

Have a great year.
