The strange thing is that I just spent £200 at the garage having the elastic replaced ( they definitely were replaced as they were snapped)
Sounds like possibly they're not taut enough??

Would be grateful for all assistance as I'm not the handiest person in the world with the spanners!!

It certainly sounds like the cause of the issue. If the centre bow isn't pulled back enough then the roof "bunches up" in the middle as it closes. Be aware that this is the cause of the magnesium part of the frame snapping, a common and expensive occurrence. My first port of call would be to get those elastic straps under more tension.

Any chance you could post up those pics / a bit more detail on how to do this... I'm keen not to snap the frame as that does sound rather pricy!!
