repair at £110 to £120k, the man maths make it a write off as the insurer would want the most cost affective route to be taken, pay you £125 to £130k, sell your car as CAT D salvage for possibly £50k plus, total cost to insurer, £75k ish, with no added costs, quick resolution etc etc.

Is that Coleman's hatch straight? Seen many an accident down there over the years! Sorry that's happened to your car, hope you get a satisfactory result from the insurance company

Yes ...

Back in the 80's I taught at Stoke Brunswick School (long gone). At 6pm there used to be a mass exodus of staff to The Hatch. One evening I was on my way on the same stretch of road driving my 2,8 Panther Kallista. I was behind a 928 and when we got to the last bend before the long straight the 928 shot round the bend and straight through the hedge! I rescued the LADY DRIVER, took her home and eventually got my pint of Harveys!

Which reminds me of many tales!

The police interviewed a Hatch regular who was the local knacker man about a body found on the forest! His reply was: "It weren't me, because if it was I would have put her in my mincing machine and there wouldn't have been anything left!"

A colleague with a kit car was returning to Stoke one evening with another colleague who had consumed vast amounts of the aforementioned Harveys. They shot round a bend, the door flew open and the colleague fell out into the road!

What was the original plate on the 911 - looks like my mate's one from 20 years ago - fab piece of kit

Wouldn't know ... I had it new in 1981 and my plate went on it.

Still have the plate.

Yes, that is the one.

The top bidder put his bid in within minutes of it going on and has remained at the top ever since.

He only joined eBay a few weeks ago and has zero feedback.

I am trying to work out if this is suspicious or not!

So what was the outcome regarding the insurance claim? I take it wasn't a complete insurance write off as you are personally selling the car yourself?

Having sold a few vehicles on ebay over the years expect to be messed about a couple of times. Eventually you will get a genuine buyer. I tend to cancel bids on people who have zero feedback.

You can set buyer/bidder preferences to avoid the dodgy folks and time wasters.

Did this story have a happy ending? Did you manage to replace the car for something equally as lovely?

Well ... Yes, I have replaced it with an identical car, on 15,000 miles, but it is auto rather than manual. (cheaper).

The insurance company was a little adrift on payment but the sale of the wreck, which I bought from the insurer, should easily put me back where I was.

Basis you have everything to hand it may still be worth converting the new car to manual

This is a very good idea.

If you want a fair bid on the car then I may be interested as it would be worthwhile harvesting the parts needed for a manual conversion and then selling the engine and 'box.

Even though it is recorded with Ferrari as having had a repair, it is in a way a positive (as any accident repair can be), as having gone this route, as far as Ferrari are concerned, it can be happily sold through their network as Ferrari approved with no stigma attached to it.
Would you pay a full price for a car that had been repaired after a major accident? I doubt that many would do so.

The car is no more.

A firm called Barnwells in Burnley valued the car at £3,600 once it had been written off. I also had to tell them what its retail value was as they didn't have a clue! Started at £60,000 eventually doubled it. So I bought the remains from Admiral for £3,600 and popped it on a well known auction site. Went within days for £33,000 and is now appearing in bits! Over £20,000 for the engine.

Smiles all round apart from Admiral and Barnwells!
