I currently have a 12C Spider which I have owned for over 2 years and really love it and have put 11,000 miles on it in that time. I did intend to keep this car for some time. I also have a Porsche 964RS NGT which I have owned for 3 years but have done less than 1000 miles in it.

Would I be mad getting rid of both of these cars and getting a 720S? I have tentatively been given a build slot for next January.

Thoughts?

Had my first good look around (and in) 720s a couple of days ago in Newcastle. Looked much more impressive in person than I expected and was very, very impressed. Still, looking at the epic two cars you already have I think I'd struggle to justify. Unless money really is no object, it's hard not to see a severe haircut on the 720. Potentially the change could cost you an additional £50k depreciation over next 12-18 months? Would you really get that much more enjoyment? Nice choice to have though..........

It's always very hard to justify a car change in the same brand for me..........it will cost a wedge of money.............and what do you get.........the same dealerships to deal with.......a car that shares a large chunk of DNA of the car you already have, although naturally vastly improved...........

It much easier when going from Huracan to 458 or 488 to 675LT etc.........you are getting a whole new to you car, brand and ownership experience which is part of the fun.

I've got a 570S...........I would struggle in my mind give my car plus a probably another £100k for a 720S..........plus then the depreciation of that new car.......I'd rather buy another car for the stable than do that.......

Good point about depreciation and that is a pretty big hit regardless of anyone's financial position.

When I first saw pictures of the 720 I was critical of it and said that I thought the proportions looked wrong. However whilst dropping the12C in for service at Ascot recently they had a couple there. I thought it looked stunning, and dare I say it, made the 12C look quite outdated.

Will hopefully take one out for a test drive in the next week or so and see where it goes from there.

I had a 12c..........then the Sport Series came out and it grew on me, having initially being critical..............sold the 12c..........came back to the brand and when I looked at 12c's they looked ancient in comparison and I loved the 12c when I had it........the front bumper that I initially loved because of the horrific 650s front bumper.........now looked odd to my eyes, which will only increase as more new models roll out of the factory............

Sarnie, I had the same thoughts regards the 570 when it came out but it is really growing on me. Maybe I should have a look at the 570 Spider and keep the Porsche.

As for different marques, I understand that but I have never really wanted to own an Italian. I have had numerous Porsches over the years and although sometimes tempted by the newer GT cars I can't see myself going there.

I think I will be spending a fair bit of time on the McLaren configurator this weekend.

Sell both and buy a 675 LT maybe but not a 720, will be shed loads of depreciation on that after the initial flurry, next year we will have the 720 spider, year after the LT and suddenly your 720 is old hat, 675 I think is and will remain something special.

Dont sell the 964! It is a sufficiently different car to most others that it complements any multiple ownership. I have a 964 in addition to a Lambo and a Fezza, and I find it always refreshing to jump between them.

TISPKJ has a good point there OP - would you not consider a 675 instead of a 720? I think they are list or a touch below so assuming you don't go for one of the crazily optioned roof scoop ones, shoudln't be that much more than an well specced 720.

Would keep the Porsche and replace the 12C spider with a 570S spider with track pack personally.

720S is without doubt an awesome car with shocking performance but I still do not get on with the HYPERcar looks and proportions. I appreciate the design and technology but the only angle of the car I like, is looking down on it from above( which no one really does ) or the rear end. Simply do not like the front or side on looks.
You are also talking about coming from a spider into a coupe which is another dimension to the driving experience you should consider. I always prefer spiders for the added open top motoring experience. 720S spider might be 2 years away and LT versions longer but I've decided to pass on a standard 720S coupe for the time being but who knows may revisit it in 12 months as used car when we have a better picture on residuals

I would not sell the 964 for it .... the 12c sure, but as others have said, possibly quite a bit of depreciation to come

I am enjoying these recent 720S threads. The majority of people who've ordered won't even be getting their cars until next year but already it's worthless and dated!

Personally yes you should do it. It's a better car than your other two by a huge margin imho. I don't like 964s either - they're just a form of investment. Instead of the cash ISA people have a 964. Objectively they're not worth the money and aren't even that quick

But, if you're asking from an investment point of view then no I wouldn't do it

You've got to be honest with yourself and decide is it your heart or head doing the purchasing

If I could afford it and the inevitable depreciation, in a heartbeat. They will depreciate, but as I am not wealthy enough to afford one TBH my opinion counts for nothing.

I own a 12C and unlike a previous poster, I don't think it looks ancient, I still prefer the look against the 650. However that is all subjective, because if we all liked the same thing, there wouldn't be a need for any new cars and we would all own a Black Model T.

I understand owning multiple cars, but that is great because not one of my cars meets all of the needs of my driving requirements.

What a fabulous car, I am going to wait for the 2nd hand market though.

I would stick with the 12C and 964 myself. But then if the new car bug has bitten you already, there is nothing I can say that will stop you scratching the bite. You are "gone" already without you realising it.

Like you, I did not like the 720 looks initially in its launch colours. However I've seen a dark grey/blue colour on the car at ascot when dropping my 12C off for service that suited the car and as a result the looks have grown on me. The interior is a lovely driving environment too.

But back to your question. You already have not one but two wonderful cars. To me, I'd rather have the choice of driving one of those each morning.

WOW! Fire black? This colour virtually neutralises the effect of the ugly front light vents.

Yes I agree it does re the headlights but you do lose some of the beautiful lines and details as well which is always the case with a very dark colour.

I'm sure in looks stunning physically when its clean and in the sunlight
