What do people think of the saleability of a low mileage red car that has a limited spec; literally just shields, chromatic mirrors, white stitching and painted callipers. How easy/hard to sell? What kind of price difference to a well specced car?
I think having had a couple of 458's and talked about this with dealers, the only 'essential must haves' are the shields, carbon steering wheel (standard woefully cheap looking) and upgraded wheels (standards very unpopular). Obviously, Rosso number one for resale.... without these things, I think what you might save on purchase you'll certainly lose on re-sale. I would advise spending an extra £5-10k. It's nice to hear on trading-in..... "nice spec sir, we'll certainly have no problem moving that on".hondansx said:
Could anyone advice on the model year changes? I've read this thread front to back and notice some people say the later cars sound different, but is there any noted spec or mechanical changes?
MY11 on cars allow you to have the speedo on the left display when you are playing audio, prior to that you had to choose one or the other. Not retrofittable to earlier cars.As mentioned previously MY11 on also had reconfigured exhaust software that as a byproduct reduces the pops and bangs.
MY12 on had a software upgrade to both the suspension & gearbox. The former is available as a "handling kit" for earlier versions, but if memory serves it costs several thouands.
Besides that I'm not aware of any significant differences. Like options I have a feeling even the above is more "quality of life" stuff, that you'd be hard pressed to notice or care about if you "had to make do" with an early base car.
Appreciate that Durzel.
I agree, i imagine the extra trinket or too doesn't make much difference. Some model year changes are quite significant though, not just in terms of equipment but also reliability mods. And in general, you'd like to think reliability improves as the years roll on.

I'm not personally aware of any "defective from the factory" issues with the 458, even on the 2010 cars. There's certainly nothing as severe as - say - the manifolds on the F430.
That being said, I personally had to replace all 4 shocks on mine because 2 of them started misting oil. Not covered under Power warranty (oil leaks are excluded) and a bill north of £8k. It had only done just over 9k miles at the time too.
If I were in the market again that's something I would definitely check on any car, regardless of whether it had a Ferrari warranty or not.

On the Brightside ... After selling my Porsche 997 Turbo in March and searching ever since I have finally bought a red 458 Italia with upgrade wheels, shields, colour callipers, carbon dash, led steering wheel, carbon bridge and carbon race seats. Literally my perfect spec. Now bring on Italy next June!

I've had a similar lesson with my 430 which still had the power warrenty. Suffice to say did not cover my gearbox issue. They were pushing me to renew it this year for 3k and I didn't bother as I've yet to hear good stories of what it does actually cover ???
Covered my gearbox failure no questions asked - so I renewed it Chris355 said:
