I was talking to a dealer who was changing both rear shocks on a 458 they were selling because one was leaking. Said it was 3k cost for the pair. Definitely something to have checked.
I arranged to view a 458 in the summer and when I arrived at the dealer it was up on the ramp having leaking shocks replaced.

Thanks all!

Dealer pics are all I have at the moment. Should collect in about a week. Then the detailing begins!

I love the interior. I personally am not a fan of full leather interiors and think the part alcantara is far more desirable and 'sporty'. But it very difficult to find one in that spec so must be the minority!

Agreed, not too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter unlike full leather. My old R8 came in similar combination and was ideal. The interior looks superb on this car.

Alcantara in the middle stops you slipping around and leather on the side bolsters is harder wearing so the perfect and most desirable combo IMHO

Yeah, that's a great spec car. Giallo calipers too which I think everyone can agree is the most important thing wink

I never thought about a leather/ Alcantara combination, but loved it when I saw it. I suspect the reason there aren’t many is down to the cost. The price list suggests it costs an extra £5063! Crazy price. That’s before you add all the other stuff on.

The alloys are crazy... an extra 4K over the standard wheels. Yet they are the same size!

Lovely car that Chris! Hope you enjoy smile

On the shock/suspension issues - is there any reason people aren't having them rebuilt, rather than forking out thousands for replacements from Ferrari?

No idea why people aren't having them rebuilt, but it must be worth looking into. I know people are doing it on the r8 Mag shocks because they are also expensive.

By all means pm me but what was your gear box problem ? Out of interest in relevance to my own one which the main dealer told me 1300 exploratory costs just to get to it and highly likely not covered was where I had to draw the line. Admittedly my 430 is older but surely that's not relevant or the warrenty wouldn't be on it in the first place.

Unfortunately I can't tell you much - it spilled oil all over the road and did not want to go into gear properly anymore (I found out about the oil only after stopping - diffuser and back of car full of oil and still leaking when I stopped)
Towed it to Ferrari and they sent the gearbox off to Italy and had it repaired - took about a month and a half in total
Did not ask what the exact problem was and never received an invoice/works done summary as it was covered
Sorry that I can't give more detail
Extended the warranty straight away and prior to that considered not doing so as figured none of the issues I had to date were covered (parking sensors, weak battery, various electronic gremlins)
These cars are getting to complicated imo which does not bode well for running them long term out of warranty - which is what I kinda want to do as I like keeping cars forever to not have to consider depreciation .... once out of warranty I'd rather not pay the 180 euros an hour for every little repair at Ferrari

Next ...

Im considering having it professionally detailed; Colchester or mobile recommendations welcome? What sort of price would you pay for detail and ceramic coating?

If I do it myself (dont worry, Ive done various Porsche, Ferrari and Astons before), what products does everyone recommend for wax and sealants?
