Hi all,

I'm currently considering a 360 CS and doing a little research.

I've never owned a Ferrari before frown but am a complete petrol head.

I like cars that are a bit different, loud and an experience to drive. I have previously owned Aston's Lotus's, TVR's and Nobles.

I'm interested in views on the 360 CS including the ownership experience.

Also does anyone have a view on prices? they seem to have been up near £300k and now have settled around £200k for a low mileage RHD example.

Does anyone think now is a good time to buy or will they continue to drop in price?

Prices have softened from their peak approx. 18 months-2 years ago.

As far as I can tell, though, good RHD examples will always be a strong prospect. They're a collectable, rare Ferrari... and long-term they should do well. Short-Medium term is far harder to predict in the current climate. That said, I'd find it hard to believe you'd lose your shirt on one.


In other news, they're bloody epic and I suggest you buy one immediately.

Not driven one personally but a mate passed me and Mrs S in his blue one at full pelt on a run late last year, exhaust valves wide open and it scared the crap out of her, the 'oh my god' was followed by a 'oh that's exciting isn't it!'.

Very much a race car for the road and all the better for it.

Saw a dark-blue one trundling through the London Zoo ring road on the weekend. Heard it before I saw it. Defo stood out.

Wonderful car, apart from the gearbox which is fine on a track but frustrating on the road. It's offensively loud. I bought a LHD because the gulf in price was huge (nearly 100k at the time, maybe a little less now).

I love the gearbox. Its an old and brutal paddle shift which whilst not a manual gives the next best thing which is drama every time you shift. In race mode the shift is insanely brutal and all the better for it.

To me, all single clutch gearboxes just feel like a badly driven manual or a badly broken dual clutch. I really tried to love it.

FWIW...

I was on your journey. LOVE the CS and still do but settled on a 430 Scuderia. For me the noise of the CS is Epic and the Scud is a whisker away, however the character of the car is much improved. Doesn't have the well balanced lines but does make up for aggression and of course that gear shift.

F1 Superfast II gearbox in the 430 Scuderia is the best gearbox out there for this type of car, period IMHO.

Fast like a DCT but also aggressive without being jerky like a single clutch

Like all good cars, it takes time to master and requires 'being driven'. You won't get it right every time, but that's part of the fun isn't it?

I can understand why others may find it frustrating - it's a paddle-shift, it should be perfect every time, right?

For me, it just adds to the completely barbaric nature of the car - you really have to think about your shifts and time them right or risk upsetting the balance of the car.

In that respect, the driving experience sits far further back in history than it's performance stats would suggest.

The noise is something to behold, that's for sure. And due to the lack of soundproofing, it sounds every bit as good inside!

The blue looks stunning - your mate is a lucky chap!

The gearbox is fine when the car is driven hard. The thing is, it's a road car, it can't be driven flat out all the time. Sometimes you've got to park it or creep along in a traffic jam and that's where it's frustrating.

It's a cliche but wouldn't it be better if the car were a manual?

The car would just be 'different' rather than better if it was a manual IMHO. The reputation of the 360 CS paddle shift as being something to tame like the rest of the car just adds to the feeling that it's something very special, that little bit more desirable.

I'm in no way a Ferrari fan boy, but the CS has a proper thoroughbred feel which makes you realise it's not your usual show pony.

Thanks for the replies.

The more I read, the more I think it’s time to go and have a look at a few CS’s.

Does anyone have a view on colour? Does red hold its value better than other colours or doesn’t it really matter?

I’ve seen a silver car for sale with stripes that I like quite like the look of

History, maintenance, mileage and spec are probably the most important. Red is a very popular colour for them, as with any ferrari, but due to the low numbers of other colours, I don't see red as commanding a significant premium. Factory stripe, however, does.

The question for me is how close can you get to CS by taking a std 360, removing weight, and adding a Capristo exhaust? 50kg of weight removal is easy with Li Battery (20kg), exhaust (10kg), and seats (20kg). For sure the next 50kg if feasible...

Engine spec is similar and TCU tune can be reporgrammed.

Would then the £100+ difference in price be justified?
