Surely we buy supercars (or hot hatches, classics, vintage, sports cars etc) because of how they make us feel and surely driving them is the best feeling they offer?

If not, collect 1/18th scale models. Just as pretty to look at, much less cost to buy and own. Just sit very, very close to them and you'll barely be able to notice the scale difference. ;-)

Italian roads down the west coast are f*cking awful btw. I've been spoilt with Lombardy (the lakes), Italian Alps and the Mille Miglia route which obviously takes all their budget. The surfaces on most of the west coast roads are like the surface of the moon.

Austria, on the other hand, has superb roads throughout based on the route we took in June. Good job cos the Spider ain't as well dampened as the F12.

Btw Rambo, fancy coming on the lads road trip next year? You might struggle with the Yorkshire accents but you would be welcome.
That's a very kind offer you might live to regret
Would love to IF it Wasn't for the mileage.
Only joking yeah supercar road trip sounds epic. Never taken any of mine abroad. I take my passport to leave Devon

If I go South of Sheffield I need a translator.

You are kidding right ? He only drives up and down the High Street to show the ‘general public’ how rich he is. He occasionally waves to them.

Don't forget Torquay seafront as well.

BTW I get the butler to do the waving these days. It's tougher than you think being the local celebrity and Earl of Devon

In case anyone else is looking.
This car is a CAT D.
The idiots selling it forgot to mention it.

Convenient omission.
Who would pay that sort of money for any cat D car regardless of the damage.

It's bad, but £140k for a 2014 car makes it pretty obvious that something is wrong.

If he comes on a trip with us, and keeps up, I'll forgive him all sins mate.

Spoleto was superb, what a great little town and the festival they hold at this time of year is superb. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to visit Italy.

Just arrived in Amalfi. View from the room. No car for 2 days now, dinner tonight and F1 qualifying and the England match tomorrow in a bar somewhere. Pompeii Sunday with a guide booked through getyourguide.com.

Whether prices are on their way up, or down, buy a car, Ferrari or whatever you fancy, and tour. Great way to spend time (and money at 2.10 euros per litre for 100 Octane. Arrghh!).

This little fella just pootled by. I think I'll bring my 67 Abarth down next time....

Italian petrol prices are indeed something - Germany is expensive, but at least the price does not start with a 2 ….

Edit: Am in Austria at the Red Bull Ring for a track day tomorrow - unfortunately in the Clio as the Scuderia is on finance and FFS does not want to let me do non-Ferrari track days (understandably so I guess)

Of course but it still saves people wasting their time with it.

Dealers like that really piss me off. The price isn't an indication of whether its a write off or not.

Alfa Museum - just look at that Disco Volante, I sat staring at it for half an hour when I was there.
Looks stunning - but is there room for the front wheels to turn? ... or were the roads all straight in 50's Italy smile

Good question. Hmm, I didn't look too closely at how the designers/engineers dealt with that.

I guess there is enough room in the arches for the wheels to move but it must have had a huge turning circle.

given the increased border controls (started today), I would avoid the Brenner. Suggest you take a nice tour across the Austrian Alps (some nice roads in the area)

I'm heading home next Monday from Bergamo airport (dropping the Mrs off) and I'll cut straight across the mountains via Bormio to my hotel in Landeck, Austria and then the next day I'll head up past Stuttgart to my stop near Mannheim. I'll just take the fastest route up on the Autobahn. I don't recall tolls on the Austrian motorways, we generally avoid them though so I can't even remember being on them much.

I could just cut straight through Switzerland from Como and do the B500 in the Black Forest but I came down that way and to be honest that part of Switzerland, past Zurich, is beyond tedious as it's motorway and you just don't speed on Swiss motorways. As I've had the Mrs in the car for most of the trip Monday will be an opportunity to have some fun on the mountain roads before the slog back. Hopefully I'll have Three Lions on loop for the whole journey!

Some idiot at Ferrari thought it would be a good idea to offer a passenger side screen with speeds etc on in the F12. I like to call it the 'argument' screen as when she sees the numbers, I get a load of complaining.

I avoid France like the plague (except the Alps) wherever I can.

For French tolls get a Sanef telepass. Makes life so easy and you can play chicken with the 30kph barrier.

Hi there

As I have only been looking past couple of weeks I am not away of prices were back in June, but I am planning a next car purchase and so far its most likely going to be:

570S / Spider
991.1 GT3 RS
991.2 GT3
458 Italia

Trying to decide which is hard, no decision will be made until next year as I feel the 570S in particular will drop quite a bit more, maybe another 10-20k in next six months simply as Mclarens lose value quick.

A GT3 is probably quite a safe bet on residuals, particular if opting for manual.

I see there are now quite a lot of 458's under 150k mark, is this lower than they were six months ago?
Do we think they can go lower or like the GT3 are these prices now close to bottom, I'd have thought can't go much lower simply because a nice F430 is still 90-100k, so can't see the last NA Ferrari going much under 120k for a less desirable spec.

What are the must have specs on 458 Italia please?
It would be daily driven, are they reliable and still quite capable in the wet?

For me, I wanted carbon sports seats, carbon dash/Led steering wheel.

I've not heard of any major reliability issues nor had any with mine, only had it a short while though.

They are pretty capable in the wet but its still a 560bhp rear wheel drive super car and will break traction a lot even in wet mode! The only thing that would annoy me as a daily driver is the super instant/zero play in the throttle - which is great when you are "on it" but can get a bit tiresome when parking or at low speeds.

I think there have been numerous threads you can probably find/search re opinions on specifications.

Generally, the used prices reflect alleged desirability. I.e. if it’s got lots of carbon, etc you pay a bit more. The same on reselling or trading back..... you’ll get a little more for better spec but probably not as much as you think. ‘Buy what you like’ is all that really matters if the provenance of the car stacks up.

Having said all of that and having owned a couple 458’s IMO colour is very important. I.e. rosso red cars always carry a premium simply due to a wider target market of people desiring this in a Ferrari. Having discussed this with the DP of my dealer he said the bread and butter seller will be Rosso Corsa, forged wheels upgrade, wing badges and carbon wheel with LED’s.

I’ve had one with carbon seats and one with full electrics.... both sell and trade equally well so buy whichever you feel most comfortable in after a long test drive, not what you think you need to have the perfect spec.

Useful in addition are front and rear parking sensors (if using as DD). Also really looks awful without the leather rooflining.... the standard one looks like out of a 70’s Datsun. The interior carbon trim take it or leave it for me.

On being a DD; I think this would be a bit of a pain. As mentioned the throttle is really aggressive unless in wet mode. It’s the most frustrating car I’ve ever driven to maintain a steady motorway cruise.... so maybe cruise control is a sensible option?
