Hi Andy

Have you looked into reconditioning the Alternator instead?

I have some regulator, bushes and rectifier in case my alternator fails, I just digged out the link for the DIY process

Part No: 158047:

By the looks of it, Eurospares have no stock, and Maranello classic car parts look ridiculously expensive!

I suspect it would be far cheaper to have your original alternator reconditioned.

hey guys

i was going to whip out out and then have it re-furbished professionally, my local garage will put it up on ramps and take it off while i get it done etc....... theres a place near me which specialises in re-manufactured ones so i thought that i could see how much theres was etc, they do a lot of ones for older classic cars hence i wondered what the part number was.

have either of you done he DIY job? is it straight forward and is it possible to get it wrong?

cheers

There was a factory recall for an additional earth strap to the alternator as I recall so fit one if there isn't

Cheers is that just a simple wire from the body of the alternator to the body of the car?

Have a read through this thread: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/f355-alt...

I'd also advise joining www.ferrarichat.com and asking on the 348/355 section for future advice about your car.

They're a great bunch of guys, extremely knowledgeable, and can help save you loads of money on all manner of things.

Yep am a member of Ferrari chat, unfortunately I have no way of lifting car etc so it will be down to the garage, but I am going to test the car this week to see if the warning light comes on etc and go from there

Cheers

I did a search for the F355 alternator rectifier RN-10
And it looks like it’s sold out on eBay

Let us know how much the reconditioned alternator is ? Or if you end up buying new?

I am yet to use my Regitar parts to recondition my alternator, I will do when it fails eventually.

so after a bit of thought i am going to sort the alternator next spring when the car will come out of hibernation as the chances to drive it between now and then will be quite sparse as we get a lot of rain where i live...... in terms of what i am going to do i am going to buy a new one from eurospares as it was on ly marginally cheaper than getting min refurbished.

apparently also if the housing is cracked (which you wont know till you take it off the car) then they wont refurbish it..... i think that when will do it i will have a go at refurbishing the one that i have then i have a spare etc....

slight electrical burning smell, followed by alternator light coming on...... left car for a couple of days, started it back up and light came straight on...... had chat with foskers they thought that it sounded like it had gone.... have you any other possible ideas?
