Surely with a 'heart' purchase such as this, you have to go with what you want, not what will sell more easily some years down the line. That's crazy surely! And it's an entirely personal thing. I've been fortunate to own two Ferraris (albeit V12s) in silver and black. I personally wouldn't buy a red Ferrari in any iteration. I suspect I'm not alone.
I'm with you there. I like to try different cars so would likely only keep for a year or two before swapping for something else, so this is why resale is important. Black with race seats is what I really want.Durzel said:
Unless you're minted this should be your dream car. Get the car you want.
Get the colour you want. If it's silver, you'll maybe pay less buying it and can expect to get less when you sell it. Don't see how you're losing out?

I think resale should be somewhat considered, but not anywhere near enough to get a colour you don’t want.
The silver car was owned by somebody on here. I posted about it before and like you the spec is spot on. Sadly its at the 20k mile point of what seems to be ferrari oblivion and its silver.
I have toyed with it many times while im looking but in my head i keep saying, why would you buy a silver Ferrari
The black one was nice and was for sale for a while too

How nice to see someone talking sense (apart from the no red Ferraris bit with which I disagree). I absolutely agree that these purchases should be from the heart and I struggle when I read threads such as “should I buy a Ferrari or a Maclaren and if so, which one?” If you are looking to spend over £100k (possibly well over) on what is essentially a toy, surely it has to be saying “buy me” and if it isn’t, don’t buy. 7GJR said:
I'm sure the previous owner posted in this very thread.
I too am mighty tempted to chop in my coupe for this .. so be quick and make my mind up for me!!
he did indeed. Said the wheels were 7k and has titanium wheel nuts too. I too am mighty tempted to chop in my coupe for this .. so be quick and make my mind up for me!!
The spec is perfect. Its the colour, its silver. Its hard to imagine a silver ferrari being parked on the drive but equally it does it also does look very good. I have a video of it if you want me to send it to you. I dont think the 20k mile thing is to big a deal

I did indeed and I got a really fair price for it against the car I bought from them. No mention at all of it being silver and no low ball bidding as some seem to be suggesting. I too am mighty tempted to chop in my coupe for this .. so be quick and make my mind up for me!!

If I could like the post I would. I found Modena very fair to deal with I suppose. They have knocked a couple of colours but when you have such a great spec like yours did its hard to argue really. Edited by DT398 on Thursday 25th February 17:57

Yes please, I added you so I could message you my email address, but your account didn’t accept. Not keen on putting my email address on the forum, so so please drop me a line so we can somehow get the vid over.If only I knew what Modena are ‘owed’ by the car .. that would really assist in negotiations ... !

These should be heart-driven purchases for most people. No one needs these cars. Don't get a colour you don't want because it's a bit cheaper. Don't buy one thinking about what options the next owner might want (except shields).
If people are getting consumed by the spectre of depreciation before they've even bought the car, I'd suggest caution - as I can't think of anything worse than buying your dream car and it being like an albatross around your neck, unable to drive it for fear of something going wrong that you can't afford to fix, or counting every mile and thinking about how much it might have lost.
The only way to enjoy things like this is as unencumbered as possible. Obviously people will buy them on the edge of their financial comfort level, and I would always say that as long as you're not crippling yourself or your dependants in other ways - then money comes and goes, time only goes - so get it bought and enjoy it.
BUT - if you are paralysed by imagined losses then that can lead to an unfulfilling experience owning one, which is a really sad thing.

Real shame so many potential 458 buyers are totally obsessed with values and depreciation rather than the driving enjoyment.
Just took a 50k bath on an Aston so that’s why it’s a factor. Nothing wrong with factoring this element into the purchasing decision. If you don’t have to worry about it at all then well done. Regy53 said:

Being obsessive is over reacting however being prudent is sensible. I also have lost considerable sums on flashy toys but never as much as £50K. If i'd lost £50k on a single car i doubt my family would allow me to buy another so understand your concern.Gassing Station | Ferrari V8 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
