So jut sold my great 2007 Aston Martin Vantage, really loved it and it was a great car and very reliable.

The plan is/was to buy a Range Rover as we have just taken on a guide dog puppy and the Aston recently wasn't getting used and I cant see that changing in the next year.

However I now find myself with a work bonus also so naturally started to look on the classifieds and my Ferrari itch came back. My plan is to now just buy a Merc ML for say £20k and then get a Fez .

Question is, if you had £65k what would YOU buy for a newcomer to the brand? 360 seems the natural choice at this price point. HR Owen has a great looking one but I wouldnt know where to start when it comes to what to look out for etc.

Any tips/advice?

OR, just pay a £15k deposit and finance something for 2-3 years up to say £1200 a month?

I’d go for a California mate. A nice daily driver but fun too. A good all rounder.

360's are still great cars. Not as corblimey fast as modern stuff but much more engaging.

FF are also starting to look good value now if you up the budget a bit.

Thanks for your replies so far .

I won’t ever be tracking it if i do get one , more road trips to nice towns and villages for a spot of lunch and then home again , maybe long weekends away etc .

I never considered the California before but they look decent but IMO a 360 Modena looks better . I just don’t know if my budget is enough for a “good” one .

There certainly seem enough around my price point so there must be a good one out there . I would get an inspection done for sure on any new potential purchase as i don’t know my way around Ferrari’s that well.

I'd be choosing a F430 over a 360

I think they look better and the price difference isn't significant any more. The 360 was always the poor man's ferrari, could have been had for ~40k 5 years ago (I think?).

I say poor man's Ferrari in jest because I'm poor and a man and I yet I can't afford one.

The rear of the F430 is perfection and makes the 360 look quite bland.

Right now , up to 65k there are only 3 on AT and they are all LHD which isn’t happening .

A 360 Modena from HR Owen which in the face of it looks perfect is £60k .

I believe HR Owen gets a good reputation from what i can find on here . Anyone dealt with them?

Nowt wrong with a 360. I set out to buy one and ended up with a 430. Only because the right car in right colour was for sale.

OP, I picked up a beautiful 360 Spider back in September of last year and that fell comfortably within your proposed budget. Mine is only used for nice afternoons out for a lunch or blast on the back roads. I went for a manual because i wanted the old school engagement, as such i am still getting used to the car as it requires some effort to get it flowing nicely. However, its very rewarding when you get those seamless changes and that wonderful 'click clack' noise through the box.

As far as finding a nice one is concerned I would recommend Kent high performance cars near Maidstone. Also hear good things of AV Engineering, although haven't personally used those guys myself. I have heard of people having issues with the F1 transmission, but like any car if you buy on condition and provenance of it being looked after properly you should be fine.

Good luck with the search!

You’re likely to lose more in depreciation on a V12 (FF) than a V8 Berlinetta.
430 is a heavy facelift of the 360, a bit more power and better interior, but probably a similar driving and ownership experience.
A sensible soul mind recommend a good RHD well specced and maintained 360 than a ropey 430.
I’d personally go for a 360, but buyers beware

360s may not be up there with the modern stuff, but they are still great cars. Mine still impresses me every time I drive it - and I've owned it for almost 7 years.
Mine will actually be up for sale once it's had a service / MOT in March.

ETA : Just took a look at the HR Owen one - I guess you need to decide if you want F1 or manual, and whether you want a red one which seems common with first time Ferrari owners. My (manual, but not red) car will be advertised for less than that one.

Interesting...

To me, the 360 looks classier and makes the 430 look fussy and over styled.

Each to their own I guess smile

Rare to find a 360 from main dealer - I would suggest that at least 95 % of 360 are now sold (and maintained) outside the franchise network which might increase your choice

Lots of resources to help you eg adverts and buyers guide & threads here plus https://aldousvoice.com/ferrari-360-f430-buying-gu...

AV very well regarded.

HR Owen were good for me when I bought a Masser, did over £10K of follow on work in the months after I bought it.

Definitely get an inspection either way.

Agreed. 430 is not an attractive car. No stylistic cohesion at all.

Given the FF can replace the ML/RR unless you need to tow something or go off road, I would look into that if I were you

Otherwise, I think the 360 has agreed quite well and they are among the best sounding cars ever built imo (much much better than the later cars)
