I have been fortunate enough to have had a drive in the F8 and it is a stunning car of course. I drove the 488 at Fiorano and there is no doubt that it is better in every way on a track than the 458, so I'd expect the F8 to move that game on even more. Certainly driving my 458 with 488s at Silverstone the amount of extra grunt they have on straights is very obvious. So for the road though, it's just me but I don't feel I'm missing out on something in the 458. It sounds better (but the F430 sounded better than the 458) than the 488. It was a very wet day so I wasn't allowed put the F8 in Race or do anything particularly ambitious but with that caveat and confession of limited exposure I don't think the F8 sounded all that much better, a bit better certainly, than the 488. The pace is so monumental that it will peel back your skin. That's both good and sometimes bad.
I'd really happily have an F8 but twice the money doesn't give me twice the benefit/recompense, and sadly the money part does actually matter for me, so I'll probably just chop in my 458 for a 458 Spider and reserve my track playing around to the Atom, whose consumables will be so much less bothersome than a hard tracked Ferrari of any of the previously mentioned varieties.

I'm not sure outside of Youtubers and Instagrammers why you'd buy an F8 over a 458 if you're buying it as road car.
As a former multiple 458 owner, current 488 Spider owner and having spent some time in F8, I would say because the steering, ride quality, transmission, interior fit and finish, instant torque are all significantly better than the 458, a much better daily driver that feels less fragile.Of course everybody on Pistonheads spends their day slamming the red line at 9k so that might not be important.
To be fair I was really disappointed how the F8 sounded in comparison to the 488 with the GPF. Apart from that it was tremendous (but certainly not worth £75k over a 488, even though now branded by the PH experts as the red headed step child of the range).
I see it has options of approx £20k. If discounts of at least £25k are being offered by main dealers why would anyone pay roughly the same spread without the dealer support? I truly don’t understand a lot of human behaviour. If current chatter is true you can currently take your pick from the F8s parked up “around the back”.
As an aside the F8 featured in Harry’s Garage had £120k of options! What additional items adds another £100k. It sounds implausible.

Some ridiculous numbers. Think it was £10k for the carbon engine cover that looks cheaper than the usual crinkle red. £2k for Apple car play etc etc.As an aside the F8 featured in Harry’s Garage had £120k of options! What additional items adds another £100k. It sounds implausible.
Most of the extras cost seemed to be carbon trim bits.

Can you change spec or is car already here?
Already physically here and It's been sold now...I have today been told that the £25k discount is based on the customer losing his deposit and it's not something they would usually offer to do.
On a non special car no - I found the salesman will allude to the fact, that the more you spend on 'extras' you may receive your car faster, on more exclusive cars (I specced up an 812 GTS) I was told - that my sensible spec (total 321k) may not be enough to secure your'e car sir - the other spec I did (345k) would much more likely be able to secure me a car.
However, this was pre covid situation (January I think) and I have never been a Ferrari customer.
The extra 24k difference was mostly just interior carbon stuff, and I remember thinking I would be happy to pay 2k extra for these bits, not 24k!
I didn't go through with the order in the end, but the profit margins on all the options must be incredible.

I have owned a 458 for 4 years and am changing up to an F8 next week!
I find the 458 owners “defending” their cars against the 488 and now F8 very akin to the behaviour of McLaren owners and it’s getting boring tbh. Having to defend their cars values and performance on every V8 Ferrari thread!
The 458 is a fantastic car don’t get me wrong but to say it’s better than an F8 is just silly. 20 mins in a test drive won’t even have warmed up your tyres so of course id you floor it there will be wheelspin!
I was lucky to be invited to Marenello to test drive the F8 for a whole two days. Driving along the twisting and scenic mountain roads near the factory on day one followed by an entire track day at the Fiorano race track and also a factory tour to appreciate the tech behind the F8!
The F8 is spell binding. There is no comparison to a 458 this completely blows it away. The 458 obviously sounds better being NA and handles a bit better but then it’s a much slower car than this so of course would be easier to handle. The F8 is currently the fastest car in it’s category that one can buy.
458 owners have been going on for years (must admit I did a bit too!) about how they will never drop in value, that they will appreciate due to being the last naturally aspirated V8 blah blah blah but reality is that they have dropped in value just like other models have. Even the Speciale has lost £100k over the past year so forum talks can’t save values of cars so please lets stop this!
Go out and Enjoy the choice given...£120k 458, £150k 488 and soon a £200k F8. Given the gap in performance and tech I am happy to spend the £80k more over a 458 it is well worth it IMHO.
Now I shall wait to be flamed by the 458 posse of Pistonheads but sorry said it as it is...it’s getting tiring....please stop
Hit the nail right on the head. I too went to Modena to to the same drive as you last year (thanks to Dick Lovett) and the car was amazing indeed. It could easily be a daily driver and when you step on it what an animal.
As prices drop across the board in the future I think it will be the 488 that suffers the most (piggy in the middle syndrome!). The 458 has a lot of fans and people love them. The 488 was never really loved even though a fantastic car. The F8 is bloody quick and there is nothing that can keep up with one so it will be desirable for sure once prices become a bit more affordable.
I was watching youtube videos too and it annihilated everything that was raced against it - a 720s, A Hurcan Evo, Performante and a 992 Turbo S. The way it ripped up the Huracan was a real eye opener as I have been in a Performante a few times and fk me those are fast. I never realised the F8 was so quick when driving it to be honest!
Enjoy your new car - will be one of a very few on the road this year
1. I'm a size 12 shoe and on day 1 was wearing smart shoes and had no problem. Day 2 on the track day wearing trainers the shoes were a bit too wide and had to really jam my foot to the right hand side to keep from hitting the brake while flooring it.
2. Since Covid my daily commute habits have obviously changed. Likely that for the future I'll be commuting into the city by driving it (35 miles each way or so) and just feel like a Roma will be a more enjoyable/less stressful experience for that once or twice a week than an F8 so leaning towards that instead. That plus, to me it's the most beautiful new car you can buy.
Other than that, F8 is an absolutely stonking car.
