What has surprised me over the past couple of years is that several friends who are by no means tree hugging types and enjoy cars have all switched to electric. Teslas, i8's and Taycans, and they are all pleased about their purchases. It could be a sign of the times when people I consider car enthusiasts are doing that and pleased about the move.
Nobody is more surprised than me as I also bought one lately as paying congestion charge every day was a bit of a pain.I do hate it however !
I think that within the decade, running an EV will cost just as much as a ICE.
The government will not want the billions of pounds in fuel and road tax to just vanish. I think there will be road/vehicle taxes, heavy tax on charging and congestion charges will resume as normal. The motorist no matter what mode is and has always been a cash cow.
So enjoy the EV now while you can run them cheap.
Being that technology out dates quick. Could it be that used EVs will be as cheap as chips, and the running costs might match the value of the car its self?

I think you are correct that it will cost more than now [similar to what an ICE car costs now], but I think running a high-powered ICE car will be a lot more expensive than it is today. The government will not want the billions of pounds in fuel and road tax to just vanish.
