Evening all. I’m bored as hell and been browsing the classifieds more than ever. Regretting selling just about every car I’ve ever owned (V10 R8, 650S, 1M, CSL, 360CS, etc).

Never owned a 458 and thinking of buying slightly higher mileage example. Interested to know if anyone has recent experience of buying... prices obviously all toppy like everything up for sale at the moment. The 458 prices have retained material premiums vs F1 430s for some time now, but I’m no expert on the modern stuff.

Also, are they fairly reliable ? Any must-have options that people feel are critical ?

Would be a bit of an impulse purchase, so just fishing for any current views from people who have bought or recently sold.

Thanks in advance for any views !

Good car history sir. Had three of those . Yes I regret too but couldn’t afford to keep . 458 not as focussed as some of those cars, especially 360 CS. But so easy to live abs do miles in . It is was me , forget the miles (if prices accordingly ), BUT get from main dealer . The Ferrari 2 year warranty is superbly abs worth £7-8k to me for complete peace of mind .
Good luck on search

Thank you sir... I’ve spent too many years fretting over mileage and being concerned. Resigned to the fact that life is too short and better to use it than be afraid of devaluing it with miles!

There's a geezer on here, Adam something or other who's just bought one so I'm sure he'll be along shortly!

I think 90%+ of super car owners get concern with adding miles, self included ! But I can safely say I don’t look back on one car I’ve owned past 30 years and say, Christ why did I use it too much !!! But at the time it’s on the back of our minds re depreciation etc. So on that note , I’m now determined to put 500 miles on my noisy bull car this week.
Let us know where you end up , exciting life times ahead smile

Thanks buddy. Will certainly keep the thread updated.

Have a major bug to get one now, need to do a bit of research re spider vs coupe. I’m usually not a convertible fan, but changed my view after the 650s and the Capristo’d R8 !

This ^^^. Nobody ever lay on their death bed and said "I wish I'd driven the Ferrari less".

not quite true, many people have crashed their ferraris and died as a result

but on topic:

you just can't go wrong with the 458 imo, it's an absolute classic and is all you'll ever need from a sportscar

The world’s gone mad.

How many and what percentage of Ferrari owners get killed in their cars as a result of their driving?
Just to understand your definition of “many”.

I'm repeating a lot of what I've posted elsewhere here but what the hey....

Had my 458 Spider from new in April 2014. 27,000 miles in it, mostly in Germany, Austria, Czech, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Spain and, when I simply couldn't avoid the dump, France and pretty much every mountain pass they have to offer many times. It's done the NC500 three times too. JCT Brookland's technicians consistently tell me the car is in better nick than stuff with low miles on.

It's had a new set of rear tyres every year, fronts every other year, one set of front pads (£700 ish) and a roof mechanism cable (£700 ish). Services at the main dealer (all inclusive) and I extended the warranty until this year when I decided not to bother on it and my F12.

Epic car, my Will states that I have to be buried in it and I've put aside a budget to pay for the plot and burial.

Buy, drive, be happy, This is the way.

Great comments! I definitely want one... just waiting for the right spec to come up at a fair price!

Called about one of the “1-owner” cars on autotrader today.... turns out it actually has 4 owners and I’m still confused exactly what the service history is! rotate

Mine never missed a beat in the two years I had it and I really don't nanny my cars - just the occasional Italian flounce if I didn't drive it for a week or two (no trickle charger used) - they love to be driven

They are a bit spec sensitive - interior carbon, upgraded wheels and shields are regarded as important and personally I had to have one with the carbon seats

I see you're in Surrey - I can highly recommend Joe Macari for service although mine wasn't bought from them

Yup. I’ve never used them but my 360 used to be serviced by Maranello in Egham.

I see they have this coupe in stock but doesn’t have the carbon seats... http://www.joemacari.com/All-Cars-for-Sale/_prod_F...

Looking at values, interesting to see where the market is.

Eg. This car sold on CC for c.£107k a few months ago (including buyers premium):
https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2011-ferrari-4...

And now up for £122k, which I guess is about right in terms of dealer markup.
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202104221...

Wouldn’t have been my choice in terms of colour combination, but helpful to get a feeling for the market.

I’ve had mine for 4 years now and the car is epic. Reliability has been great with only rear dampers and a headlight washer replaced in that time.

I had the power warranty and then the warranty direct for a year, but in honesty the warranties didn’t represent good value for money. I just leave the money in a pot now for any issues that might crop up.

I am considering selling mine at the minute due to a house move so drop me a pm if you’d like any details.

Or the carbon centre console/ dash...looks a nice clean car though

In terms of margin I sold mine to Maranello (good to deal with) and I think they put £15k across it

Pic because why not wink
