Ha, good point. I was meaning the vandalism, didn't realise it had been totalled later.

The silver RHD 550 failed to sell at Silverstone over the weekend. Highish miles I guess, but even so was surprised. Another example of the slight softening of the market?
But only some sectors are softening. This 550 failed to sell at low to mid £80k and yet Escort and Sierra Cosworths (admittedly with low miles) sell for £91-112k!!

How optimistic ? http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/24124/lot/114/?cat... - don't forget to add about twenty grand of commission to the hammer.....

Nice car, but not low enough miles to be a collectors item methinks. Not sure red is the best colour in terms of sellability for these cars. My bet is on £90-95K plus commission smile

I agree. I'd be surprised if it breaks £105K inc. commission. RHD 550/Testarossa/308/328 etc market is totally dead at the moment. Hope I'm wrong and it goes for far more.

Low mileage (18,900) low estimate (£110,000) 550 failed to sell ay Bonhams on 2 Dec.
Did not see car or hear if any issues but it looked pretty good in catalogue.

This was a £160k/£170k car 18 months ago.

RHD market prices for 550/575/Test/308/360 etc have been falling much faster than LHD in Europe. So RHD/LHD spread, which was ridiculous, is, therefore, narrowing.

Not sure where it will all end?

hard to say but will continue to fall for awhile in the RHD market imo

At present I find it quite difficult to decide if 550s or 599s represent the best value.

Both are relatively good value. Having owned (and loved) both, covering a total of almost 30,000 miles combined, I do feel that the 550 is a more engaging, more usable car for the road than a 599.

550 is Manual. 599 is auto. Surely the comparison is the auto 575 with 599? Yes a small % of 575 and even smaller % of 599 were Manual but you know what I mean.

Manual 599 circa 3x the value of a manual 575. No longer a fair comparison.

599 vs 550. The 599 is a big car. Enzo engine but auto only. Much more modern. Personally I doubt I could use 485 horses often, 611 even less so. 550 much more antiquated in terms of tech and ultimate capabilities but analogue. Both look spectacular in their own ways.

It's a nice decision to have to make.

Sorry I wasn’t clear. I agree Manual 575 versus 599 Manual comparison doesn’t make sense from a cost point of view.

But comparing 550 Manual with 599 Auto doesn’t make sense as one is Auto and One is Manual.

The only logical comparison is 575 Auto versus 599 Auto.

I suspect the 599 would run rings round the 575. Can anyone comment from experience of both?

I think that the 599 is very good value at the moment. Not sure how long that will last.

The gear change is incredible and performance from the V12 enzo engine is highly addictive. I have a Capristo exhaust on mine which sounds amazing and takes the bhp to 640+ and I have NF4 forged wheels (22/21) which I think lift it.

I see Jay Kay selling/sold (through dealer) his 550 - £165k '98 14k miles. He would have had it from new IIRC, also got rid of his FF for similar money.

good question, he's been doing a successful tour recently so shouldn't be short of cash

He has enough back catalogue to never go short. He's never going to be selling purely to raise funds IMO. His collection is diverse, hard to second guess.
