Manual 599 circa 3x the value of a manual 575. No longer a fair comparison.
599 vs 550. The 599 is a big car. Enzo engine but auto only. Much more modern. Personally I doubt I could use 485 horses often, 611 even less so. 550 much more antiquated in terms of tech and ultimate capabilities but analogue. Both look spectacular in their own ways.
It's a nice decision to have to make.
It's the chassis that limits the performance of a 550 in my experience, not the power. 599 vs 550. The 599 is a big car. Enzo engine but auto only. Much more modern. My 550 Maranello was my first Ferrari. I purchased her in 1999 as a one year old, one previous owner car. Today she's in rude health, in my garage, and has since been joined by a few of her more illustrious siblings. 599 vs 550. The 599 is a big car. Enzo engine but auto only. Much more modern. Between March 2007 and mid 2011, I owned a 599 GTB F1. I bought her new and specced her in gorgeous Grigio Silverstone.
The GTB is a remarkable car and in performance terms is incomparable to the 550. Its ability to cruise effortlessly at very high speed, poodle around town or burst into brutal life in a nano-second is IMO at the core of its appeal. Plus superb styling, its superb F1 box and that gem of an engine. Less impressive is its handling (by a small margin), the 599 is a big car (much larger in relative terms than the 550 and F12) and in GTB form it can struggle occasionally to handle the transition from cruiser to drag racer. In HGTE form it's much better sorted.
While the 550 can't compare in performance terms to the 599 GTB (or in overall build quality - though I did have to reboot my GTB's electrics several times, a weakness which is not uncommon in GTBs), the 550 provides an experience which is sublime. It serves IMO as a wonderful bridge from one era to another. She's compact, beautifully balanced, towering torque, with that priceless click-clack gate, she has an instrument cluster that looks already classic, analogue everywhere. And then her sensual body design which today IMO oozes an Aston type class. That said, she's firmly a GT and not track focused, which is fair enough, she's fine on the track just don't worry when a Scud passes you as if you're in first.
Regarding manual boxes; I totally get the desirability of a 575 with a manual box. But I don't get the premium of a GTB with a manual box (other than it's rare). The 599 was designed with an F1 box in mind. Same way I wouldn't pay a premium for one of the Sultan's RHD F40s. Each to their own but I prefer to have what the experts had in mind.
Read this whole thread over the weekend...
A year later, some of the cars mentioned here are still advertised, some around £40k less than 2017. Unlike some other cars, seems like 550 sellers are at least paying attention to the market.
I've struggled with prices over last few years, after just missing out on a £70k 575 manual pre-hype, but now planning to get one (a 550) for next spring.
Not looking to talk prices down, just interested in actual selling prices recently if anyone knows?
There is a very wide spread in asking, even for similar cars. (Don't want ultra-low mileage, would prefer one that's been used continuously).

I would like to think £85k would get you a decent 550 with about 45,000 miles on the clock. My old one is up for sale here:

Think its a little overpriced but a sorted example. I regret selling it!

I sold it in 2015 as had to buy a flat :-(
It definitely has factory option FHP (which was a nightmare in London as car was lower than usual). The diamond stitching was added later and is only on the parcel shelf. I loved the modular wheels! Not sure if they were original though. Tubi exhaust made it sound great though not boomy. Tim at Walkersport checked it over for me before I bought it.

Can I ask where you got the shelf trimmed? Would love to get mine done.It definitely has factory option FHP (which was a nightmare in London as car was lower than usual). I had my 550 dash retrimmed via Neal Lucas. It took around a month but that was because the trimmer he uses normally works on 250GT's and other rarer Ferraris. The quality of the finished work exceeded the quality when the car left the factory by quite a margin I would say.Claret Badger said:
