Justin banks still trying to sell the 103k Mile one for £59K.

True value in today's market £46k ish???
I think if he really wanted to sell that car the number would start with a £3x,xxx.

Once they hit high mileage they effectively become keeprs or breakers as the sum of their parts is probably worth more than the car in it's entirity, if that makes sense.

The buyer pool for a 100,000 mile Ferriari 550 is slim in good times. In global pandemic times it's non existant unless that price is so low it would be daft not to. I see him continuing to keep the car for some time.

I often ask myself what I'd do in the sellers shoes. I wouldn't sell that car for 30 something, I'd prefer to keep it. But I'd accept if it had to go it would need to pretty cheap.

He advertisies periodically to see if he gets a bite.

I looked at a 250k km car for I think 33k or 36k euros pre craziness - was one owner, dark red, the bucket seats and carbon stuff. Lovely car, but was not brave enough to buy it - LHD car

Ever since selling my 550 in 2011 I've thought about buying another. My old car came up for sale last week at £95k (Grigio with Bordeaux, a 2001 car). Tempting! But I must confess this one looks even better...actually it looks perfect to me!

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

Bit pricey, though?
It’s stunning - but these aren’t 6 figure cars anymore. Infact even at £70k I’d say it was steep money.
Interesting perspective. It's easy to look at the title of this thread and think there is value right now. But I guess this ongoing price adjustment requires a mental adjustment, too. I bought my 550 from Maranello Sales in 2007, it was a 2001 car and had only 11,000 miles on the clock, and I paid £55k for it. I don't recall thinking 'oh that's cheap, or that's expensive'. I was just very excited to buy my first Ferrari! Maybe that's not far off where we are now...or by the year end? Who knows. I still want one, though. smile

Which is high for a Ferrari (daft I know), which in general are owned by people who have at least another 3 cars.

F cars have always been mileage sensitive, it's just how the market is.

Having a 2008 599 with 43K on the clock I know that well.

£55k for a 6 yr old 11,000 mile car in 2007 you say... What was that, circa 1/3rd of the price when new and the original owner possibly had to wait >12 months for it?

Fairly savage old-school V12 depreciation, but still ‘free to those who can afford it’.

Also sounds like you might have bought yours before the worst of the GFC as good cars were changing hands for less than that in the years that followed...

I was lucky enough to pick up a 9yr old 30,000kms 575M in 2014 for 25% of price when new which I thought was fair value, but the car itself was virtually ‘as-new’ given the sheltered life it had led shuttling up and down to Tarragona from Switzerland.

I went into it thinking that I would double the kms over the next 5 years or so and wouldn’t lose more than 1/3rd of what I had ‘invested’.

The best laid plans and all that but I let it go after 2yrs/ 5,000kms and lucked-out based on where the market was in ‘16, but I would love to have been able to have kept it to this day.

I now look at the market and think what could I get for £50k and the answer is not that appealing...

Justin Banks just paid £54k for the Collecting Cars 575M with c/w rusty jacking point(s)...

I ran an ‘02 986 Boxster from new in parallel with my Maranello and to be honest, the Boxster was by far the ‘better’ car in so many ways. Less of an event of course but hugely rewarding. Both the 986 and the 550 were new models in 1996 but the depth of engineering that Porsche had available to it around that time is apparent.

The fact that the best of the best of these can be had for c.£12k makes the Maranello look more and more like the beautiful, terrifying dinosaur that it is.

Very interesting thread

I bought my 2001 550 in 2014 for £50k. I very much doubt a decent one would change hands today for below £100k - people just wouldn't sell unless than genuinely had to (and I don't think we will be at the 'have to' stage for a few months yet)

That said, I was offered close to £150k for it during the market peak - incredibly to watch the prices of thinks soar then sink in a few short years!

This was the cheapest 550 I ever saw, was offered it for £29k in May 2008. Vendor was extremely keen to sell and the car was mint cosmetically, proper history too. I couldn't live with the interior and bought an Argento one instead for a few thousand more.

Mogul, yes I guess £55k would have been about a third of list price. I had it as my only car (happy days) and covered around 20,000 miles in the four years that I owned it. Serviced at Maranello Sales and no nasty shocks. Was very reliable, which was a bonus. Just got stranded at the golf club on one occasion when the handbrake seized-up.

cgt2, I think that Azzuro California car belonged to a friend of mine from new. Had the Fiorano Handling Pack and a fairly spectacular exhaust on it, as I recall. He really drove it and properly enjoyed himself!

It was gorgeous externally and I recall he'd even had the bumper stonechips fastidiously resprayed by a very expensive bodyshop to ensure a perfect colour match. I did look at having the interior retrimmed in something quieter but at the time there were plenty of cars around under £40k which made a retrim uneconomic.

You made the right decision - the interior is hideous and an embarrassment to the salesman who filled out the order sheet.

Clearly I have no taste then as I'm looking at the images thinking, "I quite like that".

But I do have a thing for more obscure colours. Not as extreme as the Rainbow sheik, but anything a bit out of the ordinary usually grabs my attention.

I really like Azzurro California on a 550, it's a bit of a blue overload with the interior but it will certainly stand out in the sea of monochrome and Rosso Corsa.

(My daily driver is an S6 Avant I ordered painted Bentley Orange Flame metallic.)

Welcome to the ownership experience Dave. Your only regret is going to be wondering why you didn’t take the plunge earlier!

I’ve had mine knocking on for 15 years now, and had big plans this year for a trip to Laon, and then on to Bergamo for a wedding in her. All gone out of the window now of course.

Here she is at a photo shoot for EVO with Harry at the helm a few year ago. I blagged a blast in his Countach for that!

Very nice looking car, I like these in bright colours - I picked mine up from KHPC last week after having had a few bits attended to and took the long way home avoiding the M20 - It was a stunning day with not much traffic around although I didn't push it too hard I had a great drive.... getting more used to it and LHD now and I'm sure we will have a few enjoyable European jaunts once this surreal situation is over You are right, I wish I had joined the ranks of 550/575 owners long before now. I had considered attending Laon this year as well, but I think it was going to clash with some other event I had planned - of course that got cancelled as well!!! I have never been but I believe it is like Chinon which I have done the past few years and had entered my 924 Carrera GT which celebrates it's 40th year in 2020.......maybe if all goes OK I can do both next year.....

Congrats and I wish you many trouble free miles but that may not be the best for your channel! Fab pic. Fab car. Either balls of steel to take on track or let me know when to send the men in the white coats round hehe

SWMBO one day after collection at 203mph. In fact her very first drive was to track too.

Congratulations! Funny I was thinking the same when I saw the pic on track: quite a contrast between the 550 and the Lotus....
