I see Stratstone in Manchester have a 599 Alonso on for £500,000.
I know it has been discussed before but I just cannot understand the prices being asked for a 599 with a dodgy paint job.

As it is limited edition and is associated with Alonso, it will always have a space in some private collection.

For someone with no taste and money to burn maybe. It is just an ugly paintjob on a standard 599 that dealers couldn't get shot of originally. If you want the ugly paintjob (not sure why you would but...) just buy a normal 599 and wrap it.

hehe saw one at the racing days event again. Really no chance anyone would pay that for it. There was also a guy trying to sell his 360 for over 100k. Y wife was asking why did we sell ours for so much less as the owner came back ! I was busy pointing out that it didn't even have Daytona seats or competition rear grill it was a boggo spec car ! 2 words. Dream on !

Hi Jonathan, Long time, hope you are well?

Totally agree with you, but we do live in a weird and wonderful world.

As much as I respect Alonso, genuinely one of the greats, he didn't win a title in a Ferrari so it doesn't even have that association.

Baffles me

Definitely. What's so disappointing is the quality of thinking behind the original pricing. I don't blame a car dealer taking a punt but this wasn't a punt, it was a piss take. Worse it was the most inept marketing I've seen in ages.

Any buyer will now demand a Stratstone verified sticker created for the rear screen. The sticker will read:

"No, I'm not a Numpty. Stratstone gave me a 75% discount''. biggrin

A year or two ago, it would probably have sold at ~£500k. They missed the big window for max revenue.

yeah for sure! a few of these traded privately for good money last year

I don't see the problem with them as lots of ultra low number ltd editions aren't driven anyway so who cares if the differences aren't mechanical

F50, Enzo, tdf, 599 GTO, LaF, LaFA, 458SA, 599 SA etc are Limited Editions.

The Alonso was not a Limited Edition. It was an end of run promotion.

If someone likes the Alonso's paint job, fantastic, enjoy. But to pay anything other than a couple points premium on this car over a well specced 599 GTB is IMO nuts.

+1 hence the original post.Personally I much prefer the "standard" 599.

The same car (or very similar) now appears to be on with Ferrari Nottingham at £650,000.
Must have been so much interest that vendor has "made"another £150,000 in a couple of weeks.
Clearly a low mileage Alonso is worth more than some RHD 599 GTOs.
WTF !!!!

There's one for sale 5 minutes down the road from me for less than GBP 100k. I guess the Swiss market isn't as crazy as the UK seems to be at the moment.

Didn't Ferrari Exeter have a car from new that they couldn't give away (took years to shift)?

Guess its the same as the 599SA - no one ever wanted the cars yet somehow dealers now describe them as "collectible"

.. then again it was only 2 years ago that you could get a big discount on a new Speciale ... guess the world has moved on

Suspect the owner of this 599 Alonso is just "testing" the market. Pluck a big number out of thin air and throw it out there and see who bites. Have to hand it to Ferrari owners / dealers, they are very good at that kind of thing and often get their price or near it.
