Is anyone happy to share their approach to a pre-purchase due diligence regarding a non-Ferrari dealership car?
Thanks in advance.
Yep, over the past few weeks I have pulled out of one FF purchase and then bought a different FF a few days later. I'm happy to share my experiences - and mistakes (I'm over the moon with the one I've bought though!)Thanks in advance.
Firstly, my advice would be to get the car inspected by a Ferrari specialist or main dealer. It identified areas for me that would have cost a lot more than the cost of the inspection to fix. The easier alternative is to first speak to the garage that last serviced the car. I was amazed how helpful the main dealer (Meridien) was and the amount of information about the car's history with them they were willing to give me.
Also, the dealer or inspection should be able to provide you a with a readout of how much estimated % wear there is in the ceramic brake discs (& also the pads) - a big, big bill heading your way if the discs are on their way out, so definitely something to check and especially for the higher mileage cars.
Finally, and most importantly, in terms of deposits etc DO NOT rely on any verbal agreements, however chummily conveyed they are - get everything agreed or still to be agreed in writing.
It probably all sounds obvious but I found the excitement of a possible FF purchase and the eagerness to get it all sorted clouded my judgement more than a bit.....

I'm easy to sell to, I'm a sales person myself, and would be easy pickings.
I've seen a good number of non-franchised firms who seem to be professional but who can you trust?
How about using a vehicle sourcing expert? Are there ones out there who specialise in Ferrari?
I'm hovering right now. If our current housing development sells really well I could be in the market.....all wisdom is gobbled-up.

Would you suggest to those of us looking to buy into this brand for the first time that we use a main dealer to reduce our risk?

I wouldn't say you need to go to a main dealer as I think you'll pay at least £10k extra for the privilege. However, it does seem to be pot luck with specialists - I spoke to a few who didn't make a very good job of coming across as anything other than just wanting a sale. One guy told me the car was in 'perfect' condition and actually got quite snotty when I asked him about the recent advisories I'd found from doing a search on the car's MOT history.I'm easy to sell to, I'm a sales person myself, and would be easy pickings.

I found that online reviews aren't reliable either, as I had a woeful experience with another specialist who was highly rated. However, the specialist I ended up getting the FF from (Marlow Cars) couldn't have been more different (in a good way) so I reckon that - especially being in sales yourself - you will be able to gauge pretty quickly whether it's someone you can trust enough to want to deal with them.
Make some calls and see how you get on!

Interesting auction fail: https://themarket.co.uk/listings/ferrari/ff/98d41b...
It passed under my radar as I don't check this site very often. For me it's a meh spec, nicely under understated but doesn't pop.
Wonder why it's not on PH/AT classifieds? They could always put it on CC, where we are not allowed to talk about any more :-D
I've been looking at this car as a potential for me. But last year on The Market auction where it go to £75k the mileage was 26k. Its now on AT at £108k with a mileage of 23k.It passed under my radar as I don't check this site very often. For me it's a meh spec, nicely under understated but doesn't pop.

I'm confused! Both by the reduction in the mileage and the range in values.

Haven't you seen Ferris Bueller's day off? I'm confused! Both by the reduction in the mileage and the range in values.
That's how it's done...
I thought I recognised that FF - I drive past it a lot in St Albans.
The text description on Autotrader states, "Last serviced on 01/01/2020 at 24,000 miles", despite the advert saying it has 23,000 miles. Perhaps nothing more sinister than a 3 / 6 fat finger error when mashing the numpad entering the ad.

When you drive past it in St Albans is it always parked? It would be worrying if its being used regularly but the miles are not clocking up (or even reducing!)The text description on Autotrader states, "Last serviced on 01/01/2020 at 24,000 miles", despite the advert saying it has 23,000 miles. The dealer selling it is based just off the M1/M25 junction as you come into St Albans and I've seen it parked there. I've seen it being driven around the immediate area a couple of times too.
I'm sure a call to the dealer will clarify the mileage if anyone's seriously interested in the car.

Thant looks great - can you tell us what work was done and the parts required? Thanks
Thanks! I’m really pleased with it.It was a complete overhaul, gutting the old JBL system and replacing it entirely. Cambridge Car Audio have put a few vids together on their YouTube channel, which go into a lot of detail around the specific parts ... But in short, new headunit, new sub, new tweeters, new speakers all round, 2 new amps, plus sound proofing of the door cards and boot area. It was a good few weeks of work but the end result has been worth the wait.

Did you start out with the hi-power hifi factory option in the car or just the standard install?
If you wouldn’t mind PM-ing me the finer details too that would be much appreciated.
