Two ways on looking at this. First from a purely driving pleasure POV there is no way anyone can justify paying £600k for a TDF when a more powerful modern 812 with much improved RAS will do the same job for nearly a third of the price.
On the other side of the coin these TDFs being genuinely numbered limited edition Ferraris at £600k are brilliant value if you take into consideration they were selling for £1M+ a couple of yr/ears ago.
For me it would be a two year old 812 at £220K every time however if i had Andrew's money i'd plump for a TDF.

I think it is a different proposition to an 812 - plenty of comparisons on youtube - but I can see why the question is asked.

still think they're over rated and over priced but lots disagree with me (including the ferrari test drivers apparently who rate it as their fave car)

So no owners willing to share experiences on their cars?

I’m genuinely interested to understand why you would want to own such a car, from a driver’s perspective? The lack of responses is to be expected - most people buy a TDF to look at , and hope for an investment return.

There seems to be a dichotomy presented with respect to limited edition versions.

Unless they are genuinely far superior than their regular counterpart, then the premium from a driver’s perspective surely can never be justified?

Every review I have seen, says the 812 super fast is a far better car.

So unless you are collecting/investing, then as a driver’s choice isn’t it just vanity when the premium is so large?

People I know who have one (and 812s) think the TDF is maybe best modern Ferrari, and the rough edges are what makes it exciting.

I stand corrected.

I assume those friends are putting oodles of miles on their cars then, if the experience is such that it’s the best modern Ferrari? If not then the dichotomy lives on.

They definitely drive them, and the general feedback is the car tries to kill them each time!
The oodles of miles is a bit of a red herring, as not everything suits itself to 'daily' use - you're not going to take a TDF cross country when its 3 degrees and dark, if any sense.

Plus, it's just a fact that most people with a TDF will have other cars. You can only drive one...so miles get spread out.

I'm 100% on your side that cars should be driven, but that's a separate point - I'm just saying that a TDF is much more of a 'keeper' for people I know, even if 812 is 'better', and that is not tied to investment value. (for them)

Can’t help Andrew with input.

general thoughts on the value question: Given they are pretty much universally praised by people who have driven them (I unfortunately have never had the pleasure), I think they make sense at the current asking prices of euro 700-800k. I thought at 1 million plus they seemed a bit expensive and I would have rather picked up an F40 for that money. If I already had a Carrera GT, then this would probably be the next modern car I seriously look at. A 812 wouldn’t even enter my thinking as I think it is quite ugly and while it doesn’t drive badly, it is too much of a comfortable daily for my taste (rather drive a FF or Lusso as I find both prettier and the rear seats/4wd etc make them more useable).

Now I just need to make money so I can back up my thinking/reasoning with actual purchases ....
