Hi everybody,
I've got a budget of approx 90k and I'm looking for something I can use as and when but can still excite.

Trouble is, I live in a rural location where it's a couple of miles of single lanes (tarmacced but barely) to get back to a proper road and a good ten miles before I reach any road starting with an A.

I've considered all the usual suspects but can't persuade myself that anything really exciting will cope with the reality of where I live. Thus, I keep returning to the 911 as my only viable option which is very much head over heart.

Anything I'm missing? Any experience to the contrary?

So what is your concern? Road surface quality, car width?

It's a range of things that could spoil ownership and leave the negatives outweighing the positives (subjective I know). I'm thinking about what car could cope well with day to day use on less than perfect roads in terms of maintenance and the associated problems this sort of car brings (visibility, width, potholes, high banks etc).

I think actually, I'm asking if another car (570S, R8) would tackle my particular needs without becoming a pain in the butt. I'm not emotionally tied to a 911, just have no knowledge on whether others could do the same job without undue hassle.

I started my search with performance 4x4s/SUVs thinking they would best suit, but as much as they are sensible, I couldn't throw this much money at one of those.

(p.s. I think the Urus is amazing and entirely out of budget).

Any car with low profile tyres and 20/21" rims will suffer the same on a broken surface.

Your only real variable is the driving position, which can make all the difference to how manageable a car is. +30mm extra width on a spec sheet can seem significant, when in reality it will make no difference.

Other factor that will spoil your ownership will be how precious you become over it. If you're wanting to "use it" and are worried about this, then maybe take a step down the range.

Just have an honest word with yourself and test anything on your own roads.

Have you considered a Gen 2 V10 Plus Audi R8? You can get a lot for £90k, reliability up there with the best and a NA V10 engine.

here's a variety of suggestions:

not exactly supercar, but what about an M5?

or try something that requires effort to hustle along but is rewarding - sporty Megane or Civic Type R?

R8 or Gallardo? supercars but narrower than some, can do daily but also excite?

Nissan GTR?

Classic Ferrari like a 308 gtb which will be narrower than more modern ones - or even a 430? If you want more comfort, a 612?

Or a comfortable cruiser (RS6?) and a Caterham?

Land Rover Defender (a very different experience) and an Atom?

I’ve had my R8 on plenty of gravel roads, I’d say if a Porsche is okay on it so is an R8

I agree, they are absolutely fine on rough surfaces.

On a practical level the Urus is possibly all the car we ever need.
Probably why values are holding up well.
