Hi All,
There is an MSO 650s spider on Autotrader (link below) in a terrific colour (IMHO) and with a "want for nothing spec".
It is unique but at the price advertised its quite close to the bottom end of the 600LT and 720s range.
It is very tempting but is the uniqueness enough to justify the price?
I don't want to get into a "depreciation" discussion or about the merits of one model vs another but i am interested in your thoughts.
Thanks

The way the advert reads it looks like that huge “McLaren Special Operations” logo in yellow is considered both a selling point and permanent.

Taste is personal and my personal taste is lovely colour or not, that logo is about the naffest factory optional extra I’ve seen in a long time.

Not sure that there is much unique about that car. I have seen a lot of 650's with similar spec.

The 1 of 1 quote is laughable. Its not a special edition F1.

It's only the paint that is MSO within a couple of small trim items. I have seen other McLaren's that colour. No denying its a great spec, personally I don't like the MSO sill plates, I think they look tacky and some owners just stick similar on and I have no idea why? Also It doesn't have the alcantara seats, they have gone for the no-cost leather option which would put me off.

Matching MSO paint is a NIGHTMARE if you get it scratched or damaged! If i were you I would buy a standard colour high spec 650S spider for under £100k and spend £6k on a Litchfeild colour change peelable paint, they have done a few 675LT's and they look stunning.

Its just a McLaren equivalent of Porsche PTS and they seem to do for a small premium of around £3k used but only if the colour is good, some devalue the car!

Well Harry on Harry’s garage spoke on Twitter the other week saying someone he knows paid under 120k for a 720s performance

And I know of a 600lt that traded at 120k

So that 650s imo is about 25-30k overpriced

I love this spec too, but definitely overpriced. Has been for sale for an incredibly ong time, which suggests everyone else thinks the same.

Yes agree, that is a 'difficult' addition. I assume it can be removed at little effort and cost though.

Its a gorgeous car in a really nice spec and looks nicely presented.

As to 'how much is unique' worth'.. I would say very little in McLaren circles because pretty much every McLaren is unique in some aspect. There is a such a wide range of standard options before you even start on with MSO that the chances of any two McLarens being identical are slim.

Don't fall into the 'collector car' trap like Ferrari have recently where every one of the dozens of Pista's on the market have been specified in a unique combination in a search for '1 of 1' status. The reality being some are gorgeous and some are just awful.
