Strikes me that there are very few really lovely cars on the market. I think the age old advice, buy the very best you can afford would be a good place to start.

I like cars that have enjoyed long ownership and good service histories.

I suspect in the long term they will not lose money, might even show a small profit. Even after servicing and insurance is taken into account.

I have owned a 550 and currently a 575 F1 box car. I wont be changing that in a hurry. I like the size compared to a 599. I like the large glass area, Performance and handling just perfect

Buy and enjoy.

What about this one..?

https://ddclassics.com/car-listing/ferrari-550-mar...

Think it's had a (nice) interior colour change, and red is not everyone's favourite at the moment, but seems decent?

It was offered on here by the previous owner for £75k a few weeks ago before px-ing at DD.

Looks a lovely example certainly compared to the grigio one.

That's Bluebottles car, it has been well kept and I think is on consignent with DD where he bought it's replacement.

Nice car, I don't want a red one. I prefer more muted colours on a Maranello, to my eye they suit the car better. Strange really considering I generally like bright colours and drive an orange Audi estate as a daily.

Thanks - I missed it on here.
Normally prefer other colours too, but it could be a good way to tick the "red Ferrari"" box and sort the 550 itch at same time.

It is not my first choice, but after seeing a couple in the metal, they actually look better than in pictures.

That car looks lovely, also with the luggage it is ready for plenty of long trips. Am really tempted to get one for commuting duties Austria to the UK and back (well, that is once I feel like I can afford to buy something again - I'm an optimist though ... and also assuming the UK lets me back into the country as a resident now that you're no longer part of the EU)

Looks like chalk and cheese compared with the Grigio one. Good service history and no stories. Like many others, red wouldn't be my first choice in a 550 (mine's blue) but carpe diem/YOLO....I really enjoy mine.....

Does anyone know anything about this car ?

Black / Black would not be my first choice, but it might look better in the metal.

First question I would ask is how well and how regularly it was maintained during the five years. Oh and I'm pretty sure black stitching wasn't optional on black seats, contrast stitching was. I had a quilted rear shelf on a 550 which really lifted the interior, only leather option I thought was really beneficial.

History and condition is everything now on a 550. Along with provenance for the mileage etc.

That's been for sale for a little while now and a quick glance through the images tells you the dash/airbag has had some leatherwork which doesn't match what else is there. When I see things like that I wonder if any other items have been done on the cheap or not as well as it could have been done.

There's no substitue for seeing it in person then getting a PPi though.

Interesting topic. If car reviewers and enthusiasts are to believed the 550 Manual should be the hottest car on the market because it is a Ferrari, N/A v12 and a manual. However cars are not selling quickly, prices are softening. Do you think 550 will steady or steadily increase?

What do you think he correct price is for a 550 for a mint, good and poor?

I have noticed recently that cars we are told to believe are blue chip investments are not selling quickly. I think the appetite for manual cars is over blown and people want the latest and greatest.

Getting finance for older cars is more difficult. Not many people have a cheque for £70-100k. It is probably easier and cheaper to sign up for a 458, 488 and 812.

Is the car market as strong as we are told?. Watches are getting more and more expensive. Houses are selling in days. I do not understand what is going on.

Yes JackFlash it is. Frankly its bloody insane at the moment. As a bloke actively shopping for V12 stuff, its highly agravating that you make a call and the motor has already gone. I have a feeling that many in my position have made a judgement on what they regard certain cars to be worth. Those that hit that value and aren't dogs are going, those that are over that value aren't shifting.

I have just traded in my 599 for a 550 manual. I will update when I have driven the 550 enough for a comparison.

I don’t have a picture yet. It is the silver 550 for sale in Ferrari Leeds.

It is a lovely example. My first impression is that the cabin is a lot more dated than the 599. I thought the 599 has one of the best Ferrari cabins because it was modern but not crazy cluttered like the F12 and 812. I also loved that the 599 did not have a sat nav screen. The engine in the 550 does not rev as quickly as the 599.

However I’m hoping the 550 will give me something I’m looking for. Smaller car, manual and being silver with no shields and black brake callipers it is subtle spec that doesn’t jump out Ferrari.

Yes very similar. The 550 really suits the silver. The one I bought had 17k mikes and grey leather.

I must add that Leeds Ferrari had an astonishing selection of Ferrari’s in stunning colours. They had two 599 GTO, F12 TDF, Ferrari Monza, 812 gts and the usual stock. The dark red like my Rossi Mugello with painted shields were stunning.

Excellent decision. I previously owned a 550 and a few years after that a 599 HGTE. Both now sadly gone, as my circumstances changed rather drastically. But the one I’d have back in a heartbeat is the 550. I honestly think it’s the perfect car for the road - understated, elegant, wonderfully engaging to drive. I loved every single mile that I travelled in mine.

I love my 550 to pieces.

I was very cautious when buying, and knew some of the pitfalls of the cheap end of the Ferrari market.

I was extremely lucky to find a car whose only real sins were quite visible (and fairly minor all things considered) - I did a lot of digging into both the owner, and the company who maintained it before purchasing.

I am sure there are those who would think I was mad for paying what I did on a car with the miles that it had, however I bet there are plenty of Ferraris out there with very suspect mileages, and although I paid strong money I got a car that really was as described.

I have thoroughly enjoyed ownership, it has its first big service under my ownership in about two weeks and a one year video update will follow soon after.

I'd encourage anyone thinking of a 550 to get one, but buy very carefully. I went to look at one which was only one step short of being a scam - the dealer was using VERY old pictures that he claimed were taking "only 80 miles ago". Very hard miles they must have been.

I still have things to sort (sticky switches) but the car never fails to put a smile on my face. Happy to answer any questions where I can
