Long story.
TL:DR
Actuator went
Bought a new one as didnt know they could be rebuilt better
had 'issues' with it/its fitment
Simon was rebuilding my original one anyway so swapped it out then had it set up correctly with another Indy.
Will tell all over a beer one day.
I'm looking forward to the beer.and the story TL:DR

Today Lee stripped the LSD of the ring gear only to find that the housing is damaged.
Part below

Pictures here

Probably explains the black gear oil and the inconsistent operation (slipping on right and not the left as well as the tug in the steering under full throttle gear changes)
I'm waiting for feedback from Florian at limitedslip.de to see if it's reparable. Unfortunately Ferrari only sell the whole LSD.
Will also need to check everything the oil has touched. Who knows where the swarf and metal bit have got to and what damage they're waiting to cause

Is this same or different failure mode which happens to some earlier 12 cylinder models? BB and TR at least has something similar going on enough often for there to be aftermarket part available. Can't remember who makes it but should be much more reasonable than to buy entire factory assembly.

Not sure about this happening with other models. Still hoping it can be rebuilt. Florian knows the model of ZF LSD so hoping I can source the parts or if not the whole LSD outside of the Ferrari parts network.Lee at https://mdlsupercarsltd.co.uk/ has moved on to the oily bit at the front.

Unfortunately there is oil coming through the loom from the 2 of cam (variator) solenoids. A known issue.

A YouTube short here to explain the issue.
https://youtu.be/_lqddVl09Ss?si=V3HD78V1osIt8rQG
There are also a couple on threads on Ferrarichat and a shared problem with the 458 and Maserati
Workshop manual says to replace the solenoid and use a specific grease.
Some DIY replaced the connectors with ones that block the oil.
I saw a video somewhere about rebuilding the variator on a Maserati and another that suggested the leak came from a different failed seal.
The main reason for going through this is to replace the timing chain. At the moment it's not possible to see how much stretch there is in the timing chains.

Did some more digging. Source for TR etc. aftermarket part is:
https://www.modenaengineering.com.au
https://gtcp.com/product/modena-engineering-differ...
Probably different model part but might be possible to do similar fix for later model diffs.

Just to help DeejRC with his shrinkage ....

Engine heat shield is.... Ahmmm..... Burnt.
Definitely a heat management issue in these cars. The two leaky variators are on the same passenger side of the engine bay. I think the gearbox seals have suffered the same way.
This has given me a little reassurance of my exhaust choice. I have also ordered the Kline exhaust with heat shields.
The damaged heat shields are silly money from Ferrari so Funk Motorsports https://funkmotorsport.com/ is going to get a call from Lee to see what they can do.

The £87k silver 599 at Dicks keeps appealing to me. Then I read Cake posts and my balls shrivel back to non Italian size!

That one at Dicks has also got a poverty spec interior - barely any carbon and no steering wheels race lights, no luggage - its also high mileage for that sort of coin as well imho..
It does look lovely though !
