308/328s are great fun, beautiful and fast enough on the B roads to put a smile on your face. Personally I prefer them to the Dino and still can't understand the disparity in price. Maybe their time is now, there seems to be more interest in the model and few for sale....
Thanks!
You're definitely right that there's not a lot for sale at the moment. There was plenty more mid to late last year when I first started looking. I don't live in the UK so I'm buying remotely. Or shortlisting remotely and then planning a trip to the UK to make a final decision, get it PPI'd and sort out getting it home.

A 328 will be my first Ferrari. Trying to get things to line up with work and family is not making this easy though.

If anyone on here is looking into selling their 328 GTS privately, please reach out! Probably late May timeframe is the earliest I can get to the UK...

Can anyone tell me what components (if any) within a Ferrari 328 contain asbestos? If there is asbestos in this model, does the year of manufacture change anything?
Many thanks!

Just been catching up with this thread and have seen your unanswered question...

My all original 328 still had a sticker on the underside of the engine cover that was the international symbol for asbestos, but I can't tell you which part or parts it applied to.

Someone like Superformance who dismantle all models of Ferrari should be able to answer your question though.

what's a good sounding exhaust for a 328 these days? I had a gts around 2000-2001 and looking at them again. I found that they sounded a bit flat.

I think Kent HIgh Performance can still help but theirs may be made by Quicksilver - there's also Nouvalari / PDGough

I have the standard exhaust and I quite like the understated noise, it makes a change from all the pop pop bang types, dosnt slow it down though!

The early model had asbestos in the clutch. Later models did not. I'd guess that that is probably what the warning on the cover was for. I was concerned about the sound proofing, brakes and clutch. The brake pads would have been replaced with conforming ones at some point, same with clutch (hopefully).

Be careful if you ever wish to do a track day. I had an F355 with a Capristo exhaust that was too loud for nearly all track days. I have a standard exhaust on my 328 and have done Goodwood twice.

I bought my 328 GTB last August, she hadn’t driven more than 50 miles since 2015 with previous long term owner. Rardley have recommissioned the car over the last 10 months, done an outstanding job. I took the car to Goodwood Monday afternoon for a GRRC track day and had a great time. Car was faultless, goes like a rocket and much admired.

How do you feel it compares to your old F40?

Not a trite request, interested if a car at a fraction of the price can engage you as much as the F40!

Must admit that my experience with my GTS was that it never felt especially quick. Power is only about 10% more than a modern Golf Gti (266 vs 241 bhp), albeit the car is about 15% lighter (1263 vs 1461kg).

It never mattered to me though, it was way more exciting to drive than some significantly faster cars I’ve had, it’s speed you can actually use on real roads, and besides, just look at it… Do love the subtlety different shape of the GTB. Gorgeous.

I would not do a trackday in a 328, there are much better cars for that. Again, i had one 20 years ago and fitted a Eurospares s/s back box, that sounded crap. Also droney on motorway.

Was wondering if after all this years there was an obvious pick out of all the offerings out there. Something that does not do your head in when cruising but that can also let the engine sing a bit when you rev it.

Standards it sound like anything but a Ferrari. Bit boring really.

I have to change my straight pipes to the standard box if i'm ever allowed back on most tracks now but with the Caterhams back from it's rebuild i

will probably use that now as toooo much kerfuffle doing all that for a few track days a year,

Took both the GTB and the F430 on the same track day , found i could drive the GTB using all or at least most of it's 285bhp

(engine built by Enblem Sports Cars) where i felt i wasn't getting near to the capabilities of the 483 bhp of the 430,classic case of slower Ferrari being

driver fast and quicker Ferrari driven slower, Lap times were around the same although my lad did improve on the 430 times but he can see the

round the corners better than me ,Don't think you can call any Ferrari boring but yes most do need a after market exhaust especially the 308's and 328's .

Same gearbox feel, era and of course both V8 but that’s about where it ends. When the turbos on a F40 kick in make sure you’re pointing in a straight line and it’s not wet!! With the F40 you’d have to know where you’d end up on the journey and route as they are not easy to see out the back of, low front spoiler (mine was non cat and non adjust), people drive all round the car to get a better look so you need even more concentration. It’s great for a 50 mile blast and put back in the garage to look at but not a car I’d want to use everyday. I tracked mine at Silverstone and brands hatch and loved every minute. Got stuck with the tank replacement and that was £12k back in 2009. For a fraction of the price the 328 is beautiful and an involving drive. My 328 feels fast, I gather it used to be owned by a Belgian racing driver. Rardley can’t see anything obvious that’s been done to the engine but at 5k revs it takes off. They are impressed at how well the engine pulls and I thought they were being polite until I drove it and confirmed the same. As there is not much to them it feels fast enough and that’s with the benefit of also owning a 355 and 458.

A quick question, if you are buying from one of the top tier independents, Cartwright / Barkaway / Shiltech / Walkersport (who also do PPI’s), do you negate the need for a PPI?

If a classic comes up through the main dealer network, do you still go down an independent PPI route there?

Depends who you are buying from. Best to look at who specialises in 308/328. Personally I’d want a PPI off an official Ferrari garage v a specialist Ferrari independent. Most will give a warranty anyway and if they don’t walk away. A lot of them will have known the car for years so research is paramount and a full and thorough history file. I wouldn’t be surprised to see these start to increase in value now.

They are great cars, fun to drive and beautiful to look at. I took this at the last Auto Italia Festival at Brands as I couldn’t resist parking up for a picture with two other 328s.

Looking at Dick’s silver 308GTB?
