308/328 Values

The increase in value is a concern, but I try to put it out of my mind (except when I renew the insurance).
A concern? Why exactly? Putting on miles? Damaging it? It's still the same car it was before and is the same fun to drive as it was before. You really won't hurt its value in any significant way by using it. I was out for a pre Xmas run in my 308 today, making the most of the few hours of daylight. Magnificent Behemoth said:

I wouldn't like to damage it. Its value does make justifying any repairs/maintenence easier though.
Exactly. I'd only add that when you do repairs, pay more attention to originality than you would possibly otherwise have done when the car was 1/4 the value. For example, my last 308 had a faulty air horn. I replaced it with a generic part. I wouldn't do that now. But don't fret about damaging it. It's no more likely to happen than before and you are, presumably, properly insured.Great debate between Jex & Behemonth: It's never bothered me about putting miles on my 16250 mile 328, I get peed off for not being able to use my car more often, and Behemonth must be applauded for enjoying his car, especially at this time of the year, so well done. A previous poster commented about the number of 308 & 328's for sale, about 100 he said: looking at the 328's for sale on PH earlier today, only 18 of the 42 listed appear to be UK RHD cars. 22 are LHD, 9 of which are not in the UK. And two of the ads are for 'do you have a 328 for sale'. Similar for the 308's, 66 advertised, nine of which are 308GT4s etc.
As Behemoth implied, these older cars need to be driven and enjoyed, mine drips a bit of oil over the winter when I don't use it (it's taxed and insured all year) which it doesn't do in the summer. Both are great cars to drive and look great, in my view.

I get exactly where you are coming from. I've had my car almost 20 years and I used to drive it and park it without much thought. When it was Mondeo money.
But now I am a little more circumspect, despite it being adequately insured etc. It's not logical but I do feel more conscious of the cars value than I probably should.
(Obviously, value is relative to your income/wealth. The cash tied up in this car could be used for other things apparently - according to Mrs 308GTB)

I've never owned a car worth £90k before. I wouldn't like to damage it. Its value does make justifying any repairs/maintenence easier though. I recently told someone (with little interest in cars) that I had to spend quite a bit on one of my cars. When they asked how old it was and I told them, they suggested it wasn't worth spending that much on such an old car!
Yep just like those Elizabethan or Georgian houses, way too old to bother spending money on baypond said:
My 328 sold today. It was up for sale with the good folks at The Ferrari Centre. I already miss it, even though it was up for sale for a year!
The market finally seems to be moving and I hope the gentleman who bought it enjoys the bargain he has just bought. It really was a peach.
c 50,000 miles, black interior? Very difficult to let such a nice car go, but it looks like it was used with that mileage. If it's been there for about a year I probably saw it in April. The market finally seems to be moving and I hope the gentleman who bought it enjoys the bargain he has just bought. I think I just missed out on your car jaypond. Really liked it. By the time I thought about it, it was sold that week. Luckily a very low mileage one came along straight away. Hope it's as nice as it looks. :-)
I believe it will be every bit as good because I talked to Matt about it and he was quite excited about it. I don't know if it has a sports exhaust, but try and have a listen to any that do, as I think it makes a big difference.baypond said:

Something to note about sports exhausts - some make the cars too loud for nearly all track days. Not a concern if you don't want to go on track, but it's great fun.Jex said:

And for a QV?.....
It's too subjective a topic to offer advice. Personally, I don't like loud exhausts. I have no personal experience other than test driving various cars over the years with aftermarket exhausts and always finding them too loud. It may be ok if you have a GTB but I wouldn't enjoy GTS ownership with most of these items. However, there are plenty of fans for the usual Tubi, Nuvolaris, Larini etc & PD Gough in Notts do a well regarded setup. I'd go see them if you're interested. Maybe they'd be able to tune up what they have off the shelf to suit your liking.
