I read the sports was a bit too much as well. The standard is a really nice sound though and I've just had the remaining pipes and manifold changed which made it even better.

Good work. Do you do all your own maintenance? I've worked on older cars before, removed engines, gearboxes, etc. but other than small bits, for some reason I'm nervous about doing any serious jobs on mine.

I fancied pulling the engine and doing a clean up and mini restoration but it looks too complicated.

This is the first car I've ever worked on (other than oil changes). I started with small jobs a few years ago and worked on from there. Ferrari Chat is really helpful but everything is pretty much nuts and bolts and commonsense. I haven't got as far as the actual engine itself but I fancy my chances in a year or two!

I used to do more of my own stuff when my garage was a lot more than 6" wider than the car. But they're quite simple to work on. No more complicated than 2 twin cam Alfa engines!

Thanks for that. I may do if I don't sell it first.

I've had a look on Fchat and can't believe that some people want to pull the engine apart with no experience at all! It is a good place for tips and guides though.

cars are very easy to work on. I have restored my 308gt4 myself having owned it for over 23 yrs. Also can give assistance, ask Andy it's probably down to me that he tackles most jobs now. I am on F chat under same name

Thank you for the offer but I've now sold it. I'm not sure I've done the right thing though. Even though it needed a bit of work i'm wishing now I,d kept it.

So many people regretting selling - I'm very pleased that at the moment I don't need the money so I can keep my 328!
308 GT4 prices went up a lot in 2015 - they were, and possibly still are, an underrated car in my opinion. Good performance and more usable storage space than 308/328s.

I never used to be that keen on the GT4 but they really grew on me. Crazy what they used to change hands for and what aksing prices are now.

Same with the 308 and 328 though. I bought mine at the bottom about 8 years ago and spent lots on it. I just fancied a change and it did need lots more spending. I can dream the prices fall again to what i paid but i doubt it!

I thought that the 308 prices had deflated a bit in the last year or so but got a bit of a shock today. I was at a car show and saw the 308 gtb from gto engineering (here in the classifieds). Its not a vetroresina,had a non original steering wheel,non original exhaust,re covered seats with the colour already rubbing off,big chips on the headlight pods,missing mesh under the louvres of the rear deck and this is just with a cursory look. I would guess a closer inspection would show a lot more. And the asking price £137,000. I dont know if this is an accurate reflection of where the market is but it did surprise me.

Seems about £70k overpriced to me....

I was initially quite heartened to see the PH classifieds containing quite a few RHD 328s without starship mileage in the £70k-£80k range, though on closer inspection most of them seem to be marked as sold, so quite possibly the dealer in question is simply using dubious listings as a ploy to get themselves to appear at the top of "price low to high" search results and never did actually sell those cars at those prices. That said, the Ferrari Centre do appear to have a pre-ABS 328 GTS with 66k miles for £78k, so maybe some sanity is returning to the market.

I followed up on a 328 with 83,000 on the clock recently. Vendor wants circa £75 iirc. Now for sale through Mike Brewer's brother's Aston dealership - Runnymede. I still think that's too rich but maybe I'm just too far adrift? I once turned a 93,000 mile one down at £29k (2012 iirc) because I couldn't be bothered to travel to Norfolk to view it!!!

308/328 prices peaked in autumn 2015 and have stayed the same or gone down since,.as far as I can see.
There is an article about the restoration of a 328 in the Ferrari special issue of Classic and Sports Car magazine just out.

I'd be interested to know if any of the 328s advertised at north of £100k ever actually sold at (or near) those prices.
