Back in 2006 & 7 when I attended a couple of v Max's. There was an F40 and a Porsche 911 Yellow bird.
These two were the highlights of the days. I re call ( although my mind is not what it used to be )both hit the 200.

Suprised they hit 200mph? I'd guess 180-185 but I have no experience of either unfortunately

At the Bruntingthorpe V max event, my own car, which was a lowly 355 hit 172 and 175mph and my mates 993 turbo hit 176 and 179mph. So by your reckoning an f40 would have only gone 8mph more?
I was by no means up there with the quickest, but more mid pack. Back then the fastest cars at vmax were the 996 turbos and the murcielago. It was rare to see the supercars come out to play. They were the fastest, like I said both the f40 and the yellow bird.
I was also there when the Ascari bought there car there for the first time.
EDIT. Here's Albert's F40 doing a top speed run against a murcielago at bruntingthorpe .
This is with a passenger and did not look as though he was pulling hard out of the long corner before the straight, still hitting 190mph though. By the sounds of it it was also his first time doing brunters. Getting that corner right and exit speed perfect is the key to hitting the best top speed, as anyone who has done it can vouch.

Like I say I was just taking educated guesses. Was that 190 a confirmed GPS Speed? if not I would guess 180-185 gps would be 190 on clocks.

I just cant see how an F40 who's top speed is 201? would reach that in the relatively short distance and then just stop pulling. Can't think many cars will hit there top speed in that distance.

And 8mph more especially when you start factoring in the drag effect, and possibly the fact the aero on the 355 was 7yrs more advanced than the F40.

Maybe it could hit 200, I'd be pretty amazed tbh.

But just merely taking a guess, so my post is pretty irrelevant.

All speeds at the max are read via a speed radar. When you cross the line its flashed up.
Folding my mirrors in gave me an extra 3mph. Most every one was folding mirrors in. Some were even taping up the bonnet shut lines.

Today there are many cars that now do over 200 mph at the V-max event, from Lamborghini Aventadors to Koenigsegg’s, and that's just naming a few.

Spot on been to many VMAX events. F40 circa 185mph at Brunters.

I hit the rev limiter in a TRX shod 86 Testarossa indicated 186 mph .
It’s only 41 1/2 inches tall .....think Ford GT “40 “ .....

Aerodynamics are king above 160 .

Would have thought F40 should be good for 195 ++ so indicated 200 +

That's impressive for the Testarossa, quicker than the aforementioned 993 Turbo, which has the same claimed maximum but superior acceleration

Sorry!

I did VMAX in a Ferrari 456 GTA (about 175mph) and later on my old Lotus S2 Exige (only around 145 on the straight but it was almost as fast on the bendy parts)

The Yellowbird went head to head with GuyR's much newer GT2 Ruf but I can't remember who won.

No idea why people don't believe how fast the Yellowbird is. Road & Track clocked one at 211mph back in 1987. It'll murder an F40.

192 for the Yellowbird but I'm sure it's been faster there.

High-speed testing was carried out at Nardo and where the 201mph was done: “The only issue we had was that there was a rearward bias to the aero balance, so it lifted a bit at speed. In fact, the early versions had quite a pronounced rear nolder [lip], so we took a file to it. I remember seeing 391kph (244mph) with the LM version around Nardo.” - Chief test driver Dario Benuzzi
