took it out tonight and loved everything about it. Will be driving it tomorrow and Sunday. I do however need a sports exhaust.

Hi JonnyTVR.... really lovely car , enjoy .

I have to park cars one behind the other , which opens the potential for crashing one into the other .

To prevent this , I have placed a large concrete lintel in line with the back of the rear tyre ( of the car in front )...... so that the front car cannot go back any further .

This might help with parking the Testarossa within your garage too

I notice that you already have some foam padding on the back wall , but a correctly positioned concrete lintel would make it almost impossible for the car to hit the rear wall of your garage

Congratulations!
I agree the engine is a wonderful thing to look at and to listen to with a sports exhaust. As mentioned 127db is too loud for the track but I'm not sure I'd take it on the track much. It is fab on the road :-)

I won't be taking it on the track but 127 is too loud for me. I did 70 miles in it over the weekend .. what a car. I'm in love with it already.

When I owned my series one Testarossa for 11 years the best feeling when driving was the quiet exhaust as the car is a grand tourer not a noisy sports car? if you need noise buy a Lambo?

I kind of agree with that but not everyone does and he has driven a few!

according to http://red-headed.com/testarossa_versions.html my 1989 testarossa should not have cats. I can't see any cats on the exhaust but just need to be sure before I order the sports exhaust for it. I found this pic of the underside before it was recommissioned, do you guys agree that its a non cat version?

Get your own thread Jonny :-) (completely joking)

Love hearing other people enjoying the Testarossa so much.

I was very close to buying an exhaust too but once I got my car, I decided it was too special to change.

Each to their own but I think this car should be kept completely standard as it will just continue to grow as such an iconic car, as it is.

Please accept my apologies 007.

I'm keeping the standard system so I can always put it back.

My cambelts were done in May 2017 and its only done a couple of hundred miles. I'm planning on getting them done May 2021 so 4 years. Whats your view on this?

This is for a cat car, your isn't like that.

Cambelts should be every 3 years, its not horrendously expensive. Personally if the engine is coming out I would get the diff inspected as its a very expensive fix if it goes wrong.

Thank you Mr P.

So mine is definately not a cat car. I decided to go for a sports exhaust from nouvalari to keep the neighbours happy!

I was listening to Harry Metcalfe and he said most owners do it 3 to 5 years. Does the mileage have an impact as mine has done only a couple of hunred.

Nice one.

I would say its more on the belt itself, they can break down and bear in mind you don't know how long said belt could have been sitting on a shelf for.

In my case I'm working on a five year belt cycle. From what I have read most people are working on a 4-5 year cycle. I have wondered about belts sitting on shelves but not sure what can be done about that.

Yellow TR definitely has a point about the diff. There is a lot of info out there on that. For my part I'm not sure if it is overblown or not - there was definitely a fault with a number of them but whether they have mostly/all failed now or not is hard to say. It might be worth having a look at least, when it is all out. If it grenades, it is definitely a big problem, probably the main weak point mechanically on the car. There are a number of diff options, circa £3-4k for the part and some time to fit. The engines have very few reported problems, which might be why my spare engine has a cracked transmission casing!

I hadn't thought about how long it could have been sitting on a shelf for. It may sound like a daft question but how do you guarantee its a new new part and is there an upgraded part available? I've asked my local dealer to give me a quote as there are no indie's nearby

Typically its the bearing that goes before the belt especially on less used cars - I believe Carrs are your local dealer so your car should be in very good hands

My diff let go and it was a maintained on the button car, no reason for it to let go either but the diff goes back to the late 60s/ early 70's if you look down the bloodline. Mine let go stationary, but was still from what I remember a £8k bill and 6 months off the road as there were no diff housings available. Maybe I was unlucky but it does happen, but was the only major issue in 12yrs of ownership.

Main dealer near you is unlikely IMO to have the experience of a Testarossa, but I would ask them. It may be cheaper getting the car to nearer Indie who knows them well.

Thanks guys. If location wasn't an issue who would you use?

I need to check what was done at DK engineering in 2017 when it had major work undertaken (the bill was £35k). A lot of that was recommissioning after being in hibernation for years, bodywork/ suspension etc as well as engine out.
