This Boxer was for sale on CC again last week and I missed it. It ended unsold. Anyone any recollection of what the highest bid was?

I also missed it ,to be honest i forgot ,was at £77K with a day or so before the end of the auction,

I went to buy it around 2009. It was a neglected car then that had been in storage for years. Geoff Shiltech told me to budget at least £20k to recommission it properly then and the numbers did not add up as nice running examples were £70k then, this was around £50k but I knew the estimate was likely to grow significantly once they got it on a ramp.

The Koenig bodykit was badly finished in places and the fibreglass had cracks in it.

Thank you for the replies. I have owned two Boxers, and paid under 50k for both, and one was a concours standard example, but those days are long gone. I think the Koenig treatment looks well in black, certainly very "80's excess". I did notice on looking at the original listing from two years ago that it appears to be smoking blue from the exhaust, suggesting it may need a top end overhaul, but it does look quite presentable.

That was one of the specific things Geoff told me it needed 14 years ago. I assume it was done in the interim period but might be due again. It certainly looks much nicer now than I remember it.

Really !!! no wonder it didn't sell, the seller must have been very disappointed.

The dislike for modified bodywork on Ferrari's must have got a whole lot worse over the years ,

Must admit with age i do prefer the mods to be inward rather than outward

Although i do remember in my twenties having my nose squashed against Emblem Sports Cars ( the original one ) showroom window

drooling at a line up of Koenig Boxers and GTB's , at the time i remember thinking it made the standard cars look a little limp wristed.

Didn't think this Boxer looked OTT maybe because it's black ,

The opposite applied last week when a modified 328 GTS with a GTO kit sold on Car&Classic auction for £79,500,

the dealer who a assume entered it was only asking £69,950 retail and had it in stock for a while,

being slightly newer may have appealed to a different audience.

It could be because it's been sat for a while...or that they've over filled it being a dry sump car.


Re-reading this thread, I know the Bell (presuming this is/was Bell Classics) car well. It's had a lot of money spent on it to get it to a good state, just a shame the ride height was never sorted.

Funny i was going to mention the ride height being out of sync with the rest of the car,not so noticeable on the standard Boxers,

Just noticed the car sold for £140K plus commission on the 11/4/21 ,not sure if that was the 1st or 2nd time round.

Did prefer the red ex John Woodfield modified Boxer that was sold on here some time ago ,That was also ex Bell ,

Believed it may have been owned by Chris Meek but could be wrong,

one time owner of Mallory Park and was famous for his video showing the speedo almost off the clock on a public road .

Serious looking car with highly modified mechanics with a lovely stance ,looked like it had just escaped off a race track.

I think that sold for around £125K.

Blimey you've done your reseach ,very interesting, nobody seems to want to keep it long, it is a car you would buy on impulse and sell in the same manner

or a problem that nobody can or wants to sort out.

The car has export to Japan witten all over it or maybe Dubai if you can import rhd. cars there, and they would probably pay the £199,991

Bells were asking well over £200K for red ex John Woodfield car and i seem to remember it reaching around £150 K at Bonhams unsold

then selling for less on Collecting Cars ,£125K comes to mind but memory not as good as it use to be.

Definitely a case of how long is a piece of string .

Perhaps the speedo was a little optimistic but impressive nonetheless for the 1970's.

Thanks for that bit of information, Look forward to watching it, There is a video and a write up somewhere with him comparing the Boxer

with a Countach,not sure if that was when the speedo was filmed or not.

When i get time i will see if i can find them but it was some years ago.

It was also the very first RHD 512BB made and used at the London Motor Show.

I thought so, and had I thought it would go for that I would have bid (which of course is non-sensical).

The colour change wouldn’t have bothered me either way and it had recently been serviced/recommissioned IIRC so I’d have taken my chances. Perhaps this market has become so pernickety though that these factors have a compound effect - even returning it to the original colour may not have been worth it unless the original colour had been more distinctive/suitable (it was originally white)
