Classic Ferrari Prices

Been looking at a number of Ferrari's online over the last year (308/308GT4/348s) and also at the Hagerty price guide and the Prractical Classic Price guide (link below)

But the prices on both 'guides' seem to be way off the mark (too low), any 308's in the £30-40k price range...I don't think so

That said a lot of cars I have seen for sale have been for sale for a long time (some over a year) so that would suggest that the prices advertised are over priced.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is how accurate are these price guides and is what is the right price for a RHD 308 or 348 obviously subject to condition, so I'd say for drivers cars rather then ultra low mileage show queens.

Any views / thoughts?

I think the infamous ‘Influenzo’ was £38k, two years ago? Considering the issues with that car, I’d say it was very bottom of the market. 348s have long gone past £40k. People are waking up to them now and they’re more like £45-50k. I know because I was hoping to get into one and watching them for about six months. In the end I went for a Mondial QV.

Auctions are unpredictable. The right people can be in the room to buy the car, or they might not be.

Example: Classic Ferrari goes up on the block. Chap is in the room who really wants it, circumstances are right, the car is right.

He might pay £300k.

However, it doesn't mean that every example of that car is worth £300k. Another might go across the block the following month for £250k.

Hence 'vaguely' real - just a guide.

All you need with any auction is two people who really want the item for sale.

F355GTS, standard car, usual mileage (20-30k) sold in a US online auction during the week for $300,000. Just goes to show. Hopefully a trend is emerging .

I get what you mean about Auctions, seems the only way to properly judge the right price.

The influenzo was £32,480

348's at auction have varied from £32,745 to £63,250 but does depend on LHD / RHD and colour. The £32k one was silver and sold Sept 20, this has been for sale with a dealer ever since for £55k, although they have now dropped it to £53k. My current findings if anyone is interested:

Auctions only tell you a certain amount because only a proportion of cars go to auction and only a proportion of potential buyers would consider buying at auction for these sort of cars (unique or very high end stuff is a different matter and a different market). Quite a lot of what rolls up at auction are ex-US cars, with little history, that someone has bought cheap, hoping to turn a quick profit, only to find the market for US cars is a fraction of that for Euro cars.

D’oh. I was only £6k out! LHD wouldn’t bother me as I’ve owned and driven plenty over the years (mostly American) but I know it does put people off and makes resale tricky.

Whereas having owned a rhd 308GTS, I wouldn’t conceive of owning anything like that again UNLESS it was lhd!
