It will almost defiantly be the solenoid that has failed, they get water in them a seize up. Its a bit of a faf to remove the solenoid. You have to pop the grill of the air intake out and then loosen the (i think 4) screws that hold the intake runner onto the lid off. You should then be able to move the runner out of the way and get to the solenoid.

Thank you for that info , I have not had time to look properly but on quick inspection it appears I can leave grill in place and just remove the runner is that correct , grill looks to be held by two plastic clips on bottom that may snap !

Unfortunately you have to remove the grill as it is clipped onto the runner, you replace the solenoid through the hole left by the grill. The solenoid is attached to the lid and the runner sits above it. Patience and a right angled pick is the name of the game with the grill.

I removed the actuator this Morning just came out as you said LamboDave thanks , but connected it to a battery and it works good so next step is switch . I looked at posts that say switch just pulls out i am struggling to move mine without risking damage what is the method please ?

The switch pack does indeed just pull out, its tight though! You can usually feel if the toggle switches have failed as they feel loose and have no click.

Just covering the basics - you did pull out the ign key before trying the switch to pop the cap?
You could test the wires where they connect to the solenoid to establish if power is getting there. Use a light-bulb if you haven't got a voltmeter.

Toggle switch does not click , but I am still not able to remove the switch block . Wondering if I would be able to repair it or maybe swop over with esp that I don't use ( when I finally remove ) or do I just have to order a new one ?
I assume no Audi equivalent ?
