... I still love it. I am so glad I got this over a McLaren, GT3 RS and a Ferrari. I love the way it looks when you stand at the front of it with its little stubby front end and the width thing (Its not that wide it just looks it when you stand head on). The way the back end slopes down in a slippery kind of way with the carbon fibre wing sticking out in a rather meaningful way. The noise it makes I will never tire of and it sounds soooo much better than ANY McLaren I have heard. It's also less common, well at least around where I live than it's competitors.

The way it drives is just brilliant, feels very analogue; I don't find the egear that bad at all, in fact I don't miss a manual box (I had one in the 911 turbo I sold for it) and the best bit is the down shifts, my god are they epic. The steering is quick and precise (mine is rwd) and the way it squirms when you floor it is just delightful. The way the car is laid out just means that left foot braking is a definite, no 2 ways about that it just kind of feels natural.

Build quality is clearly Audi, even the little computer thing in the middle of the dash. I never look at it though the MPG is just, well, scary. Still, it's good to know the outside temp. The carbon back buckets are just perfect for me and have me sat in that position that just eggs you on. Still can't get used to the window switches being back to front though. But I guess every lambo must have quirk. smile

In short, thank you Lamborghini for my #lifestylelambo car, It's way more fun than the sterile, tech laden McLaren and Ferrari.

I may or may not have just been out in it and had way more fun than I should I have smile And you know what I couldn't give a toss if a 458 or 12c/650s is quicker. It's about the experience the car delivers and the Gallardo delivers that in buckets loads.

Just to add, I've always regretted selling my Lotus Elise but now I have suitable replacement. This Gallardo really does feel like a faster Elise. Odd thing to say really but that's how I feel about it.

What a write up! Thanks for sharing!!! I'm slowly learning the difference in driving the daily (Golf R) and the full fat meat and 2 veg Lambo!!! Golf is way easier to just get in and drive very quickly with DSG but as you say the Lambo provides that very Analogue sense of occasion, looks and NOISE!!! And I think ultimately rewards the driver more? It does cost twice as much as a golf R too

Glad for you. As long as you like it that's all that counts.

The Gallardo was/is lamborghini's biggest selling model ever and had a 10 year life span so it can't be too shabby.

That said the supercar market is moving on at a real pace now with amazing DCT' gearboxes, hydraulic suspension, carbon tubs, brake steer and active aero etc to name a few. All the tech certainly brings performance but not necessarily the same level of excitement of a rawer more agricultural car. Depends what you are looking for from a car

As you say 3rd to 2nd downshifts in a Gallardo make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and induces totally unnecessary multiple gearchanges just for the fun of it.

Drove a Huracan with a sports exhaust recently and the cracks and bangs on that was even better than my old LP570-4 Performante

Good write up, the Gallardo $ per drama is still a good thing, with great sound, and being a 2WD helps the way it drives.

Great write up and as a recent owner of the Gallardo and a Mac 650S in addition to a few other comparable cars (And 2 Lotus's! ) I can also give an opinion
In retrospect I remember my Gallardo with great affection , the most positive public reaction and interest of any car I've owned. Still loving its looks, spectacular soundtrack and sense of occasion, Oh and that engine , what a thing.
But it's nothing like a Lotus smile Mine was a 550-2, RWD manual and rather lighter direct steering , less weight and more "mobile" certainly than most Gallardos. But in direct contrast to your opinion its the McLaren thats reminiscent of a Lotus.
Supple easy ride, wonderful feelsome steering, tactile and beutifuly resolved. Also like a Lotus it sounds a little industrial, is a bit of a challenge to get in and out of and some systems go haywire occasionally.
Got just as much attention as the Gallardo (It was bright green) but I would say the Lambo still rung peoples bells more . In fact lots of the public thought it was a Lambo.

Interesting to compare with it's sister R8 V10 that I have now. The engine remains a force of nature of course , though more mute in the Audi. Maybe enough to go for an after market system in due course. Lots of common parts between them and the Lambo was made just as well ,very Audi like. The R8 is rather more supple with better damping , rather better steering and rather better traction. Still gets lots of attention but its a wall flower compared to the Gallardo.

Maybe boring for you but I like to embrace new technology and move with the times. Some will hate E-gear and prefer a stick
You may prefer the more agricultural horse and cart but that's your prerogative and what makes the world go round.

Cars get better and better all the time and I think the supercar makers have woken up to dialling back more driver involvement and fun which does not have to be analogue or normally aspirated in the future

Some more love for the Gallardo from me....:

Just got back from an Epic road trip in the LP570 Performante down to Monaco for the F1, a quick stop into Italy and then back via Bordeaux incorporating southern half of Route Napoleon.

The car is so, so good. It's does everything from benign, fairly quiet motorway cruising to bat-sh*t insanity noise & performance!

Hammering round the curves of Route Napoleon in Corsa mode with the roof down is an experience that will live with me for a long time..

Lambo got it so right with this car... it's an 11/10 from me!

"Better" is purely subjective. From brand new to classics, the BEST time I've ever had on public roads was in a 212 Barchetta.

My wife and her friends (who are not car enthusiasts) all agree the G is one of the prettiest cars ever. From every angle it looks great. Why L sold so many of them I suspect, that and the noise. Sitting offset in uncomfortable seats, rubbish rear visibility, old tech with an even older rubbish Audi/Seat Nav unit. None of this mattered and still doesn't. Everyone loves the little bull, me included.
