All,

My 2006 G spyder appears to be using a lot of oil. I know they are supposed to use about 1 litre per 1000 miles, however mine is using up to 3 litres per 1000 miles.

The Indy has recommended using Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40 fully synthetic. However I’m wondering if that’s too thin.
Additional info: The engine has done 45k miles, its running a decat exhaust (so is running rich/is currently smoking a tad), and gets driven rather hard (hence maybe why I'm thinking a thicker oil).

I’d appreciate any advice particularly what oils people are using.

Many thanks,
BJ

Perhaps if you revved it less hard while in Epping car parks you'd consume less Olio winkbiggrin

Have seen Helix, Mobil 1 and Millers Nanodrive all being used in different Gs.

I bought mine at a similar mileage four years ago and it was using a similar amount of oil. I switched to Mobil1 10w-60. Now, at 91,002 miles, it's using 4 litres per thousand miles, smokes a little when cold and goes like the clappers (frequently confirmed by the guys at Pangbourne when they road test it!!).

Ok after a fair bit of research I have the following if anyones interested:

- The owners manual recommends 20w50 for sports driving (5w40 for normal driving)
- The US boys historically seem to be using this 20w50 and more recently 15w50
- I spoke to Opie Oils and now that there is a good quality 10w50 that is their reccomendation so you get more cold start protection (10) with the high end rag protection of the 50
- I ended up buying Fuchs titan race pro s 10w/50 ester fully sunthetic
- US boys cars are drinking a litre every 500 miles in spirited driving in hot weather
- These engines seem to consume more oil as mileage increases but are still supposed to be bullet proof engines

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
BJ

I thought the owners manual insisted that you use Agiip oil, else the car would fall apart ?

My LP570 Owners Manual recommends Castrol Edge 5W40.
