Inspired by the Speciale appreciation thread running else where on Piston Heads I thought I would share the joy that the last year of owning this wonderful car has brought to me and many others.

I bought the car from Lamborghini Edinburgh last October with only 900 miles on it after nearly a year. It had 2 previous owners, the last of which had never driven it, using it as a mechanism to get on the list for an Aventador SV. Big thanks to Andy Canning for a great deal and spot on service.

I wasn’t too keen on the original spec so had a few minor cosmetic changes done, ridiculous I know trying to tone down a bright green Lamborghini.

Since then the car has had a few more miles added to it. First serious trip was around the Yorkshire dales and beyond, where the weather was a bit mixed to say the least, not often I am grateful to be following a Toyota Jimny for a few miles. This prompted me to buy a set of Sottozeros and meant a winter of reassured driving. Love the tyres, they are a bit squirmy and don’t have the ultimate grip but are very predictable in the cold damp and greasy conditions.

This year brought a bit of charitable work for both the Sporting Bears and Leeds Candlelighters. These are brilliant events where you can share your pride and joy and bring some real pleasure to others who may never have even sat in a Lambo never mind have a 10 mile round trip or a serious blast down a runway. Many are carers or affected by serious illness so that often adds a certain poignancy.

Had a terrific run around the Lakes with fellow enthusiasts, great roads, fantastic weather for the first day and brilliant scenery. What’s not to like.

A lovely visit to Goodwood FOS, courtesy of Lamborghini Edinburgh and the opportunity to park up right next to a group of newly delivered dealer Performantes, I was so excited I forgot to take a picture with mine in it!

It’s done an end of term pick up for one our friend’s son and a run out for a sprightly 80 year old with a replacement hip, she could get in and out of the car easier than me!

Heading towards the annual service brought the opportunity to do our own Scottish 500 in late October. Popped by for tea but didn’t get an invite.

The scenery and colours were simply wonderful and with roads to match had three unforgettable driving days, the last day culminating in a distillery tour and handing over the keys to our better halves for the last 50 miles.

Like many owners I can honestly say I have had nothing but positivity towards the Lambo. Every visit to a petrol station, supermarket or run out for fish and chips at Whitby ends up in some form of conversation about the car. People do let you out of junctions and you end up immune to phone cameras.

I have no idea what the fuel consumption is, when it’s getting low I fill it up. Best guesstimate is 20mpg ish in general use, perhaps 25 on a motorway cruise, a lot less when really pushing on. I’ve added nearly 6,000 miles this year and topped up with one litre of Mobil 1.

I have never had a spurious warning light and one that probably saved me a serious accident when I got a low tyre pressure warning, a nail had gone through the centre of a rear tyre. Other than that it’s been low screenwash or petrol.

There has been lots written about the driving thrill of the Huracan, this article is more about the total ownership experience. I work full time and have been commuting all year between North Yorkshire and either London or Aberdeen but still find plenty of reasons to drive this, it’s entirely addictive. Passengers are inevitably reduced to fits of giggles on the first blast through the gears and many are truly astonished by the car’s capabilities. The best thing is without doubt the sound, oh the sound, especially with the factory sports exhaust fitted, but I still find time to simply look at the car and it’s subtle and multiple design features beyond the hexagonal theme.

To finish the tale I picked the car up last Friday after its service to drive back from Edinburgh to North Yorkshire. Beyond the multiple speed cameras of Scotland the A68 opens up beautifully, the roads were quiet and the light just starting to fade, the car seemed to come to life and the downshifts echoing amongst the trees was simply magical. A glance at the speedo told me everything I needed to know about how capable this car is. Next weekend brings the refitting of the Sottozeros and on we go...

They do look and sound great. V10 normally aspirated engine with a decent dual clutch gearbox at last, what's not to like.

I must admit with most cars going turbo charged these days a Normally aspirated engine is very appealing and just like the craving for the last of the manuals I can see this being repeated with N/a engine cars. Will Huracan be lambos last N/a V10 ? Its due a face lift post Performante production and that will keep the model for maybe another 4 years at which point I wounder whether lambo will crack to the pressure of going turbo/hybrid

I think should be buying a normally aspirated manual car, maybe a V12vantage at circa £90k wouldn't be a bad shout ?

Congratulations on the car! Mine was delivered in April and I have been equally impressed. I went for the standard engine cover with slats rather than the optional glass cover. I think the slats are a good look and remind me of the Miura. I also went with the standard wheels which continue the hexagonal theme that appears throughout the car rather then at the optional forged wheels which look a bit generic to me. Usefully, those choices saved me the thick end of £11k.

I was interested to see you have 'decoloured' the brake calipers. I also went for plain. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that but I have always disliked coloured calipers. Without wishing to offend anyone, there is something a bit 'white socks with a suit' about them in my opinion.

Lamborghini is very impressive these days. I had a Gallardo for 9 years which I sold a few years ago. That did not really put a foot wrong in the 36,000 odd miles I did in her. Quality of fit and finish in the VAG era is particularly impressive and Lambo do not seem to suffer from the sort of paint/aluminium corrosion issues or little reliability problems that seem to plague its competitors. My Gallardo still looked like a new car when I sold it in 2014.

I had thought my new Lambo days were behind me when I sold the Gallardo. I am less in the UK these days and most of my car focus is on the classics. A test drive convinced me otherwise - it is good to have something in the stable that is completely up-to-date.

I have covered just over 2k in her so far. I had a bit of a scramble to put some miles on her earlier in the year as I had an Autobahn trip planned and wanted to get her over the running in mileage beforehand. Unfortunately, that was cancelled.

The biggest surprise for me is the benefit of the twin-plate clutch. No more lurching around in traffic and sweating in town. Quite a revelation over the supercars of old (and not so old). The acceleration is also extraordinary. I think if you tried to use one on a daily basis you would struggle to keep your licence. The biggest challenge is the discipline necessary not to wring the thing out through the gears at every opportunity. It is no bad thing that the good folks at the factory set the speedo to exaggerate so wildly.

Picture of delivery day earlier this year below. Who the hell is the old guy sitting in my car?

Thanks for the comments and I’m pleased that everyone ‘got’ the intent of the post. These are marvellous and highly capable cars that deserve to be driven and shared.
I have a deposit down on the currently non-existent Performante Spyder, but I’m sure that will change soon. Bizarrely I also have other photographs of an old git sitting in my car too...

Everyone loves a Lambo. Seems to get a different reaction ( far more positive ) from the general public than say a Ferrari in my experience

The Huracan is a stunning shape from every direction in my opinion. It sounds epic too. I usually love black and never go for a bright colour on a car but with the Huracan yellow, orange and green look amazing. Best of all the lambos in my opinion. Very nearly bought one a few weeks ago.

Marvellous stuff! Similar thrills and experience in the time that I've had mine (since July). I've covered about 2,500 miles in that time, including a trip down to Riems and along the remains of the old F1 track just outside the city. The highlight was some 10 miles of sweeping road that we'd know as a B road, but there has a really good surface, excellent sight lines, engine going great guns, decent chick at my side ;-) So good that we went back for another run through it!

But now she's parked up (the car that is) for the winter in storage as the garage is being demolished and re-built.

I did think mine had developed a rattle in the door, but found it was a pack of tic-tac's !!!

Lovely write-up OP and a fabulous car.

My favourite bit - "I have no idea what the fuel consumption is, when it’s getting low I fill it up" smile

Good on you for using it as Lamborghini intended!
