Many thanks for taking the time to post those. Do you think it makes a significant difference to how comfortable the seat is?
it's still no bentley, but it gave me a little more back support and the seat now supports my lower thighs ( i'm 6'1" )

I have a SL2 and have over the last 18 months or so covered about 6000 miles, which is adventurous by some standards.

Personally I love this car. I had a Super Trofeo Exhaust fitted to it, which means that the already orchestral noises become further amplified, complimented by lots of back pressure pops and burps as my wife calls them. Downshifts bring the hairs up on the back of your neck. Reduces weight by another 15kgs or so to boot..

This car is not comfortable on long runs. It is not meant to be. It is a hardcore version of the LP560 and you are not buying comfort. You are buying seat of your pants, insane grin inducing, motoring mayhem. It delivers that in spades. As others have mentioned, handling is superb. Very direct steering and always feels very planted. Your bottle will run out long before the car’s limits.

Very reliable, solidly built, it will even return around 24-25mpg on a steady motorway run at about 79 mph (Limit plus 10% plus 2mph Officer) but then when you have one of these fuel economy is not high on your list of worries. You want to be pulling through the gears, changing around 7500 revs ( conditions depending) leaving most things as specs in your rear view mirror. Red lines just over 8000 but Dyno testing on mine shows power and torque flattened out beyond 7500. Plus, you don’t reelly want to bounce around the Rev limiter all day...it is just not necessary. Slowing down is best achieved with downshifts , I find you get the best noises with downshifts coordinated to bounce around 3000-3500 revs. If you can find one with carbon ceramics they work well, very well. Takes a while to get used to them, but boy do they stop you quick and if you are tempted to track it, brake fade will never be an issue.

Be prepared for lots of attention. These cars do not blend into the background well. You will find yourself or rather the car, being photographed at traffic lights, by people driving past you in traffic, pretty much everywhere. You will have lots of conversations with random strangers but so far I have never had bad vibes from anyone. Always makes people smile and point and wave. You cannot drive it and have a bad hair day though, given how much of a magnet to a camera they are.

I would highly recommend one. Let us know how you get on...
Your car is lovely. I can but dream.

OP.. just out of curiosity, what made you decide on a SL/Perf ?
I've always wanted a seat of the pants supercar, after being on the Modball rally with a few Gallardo's and talking to the ownersI started to research, these seemed like the best bang for my buck; plus they remind me of the posters I had on my wall as a child. Looking forward to a trip down to VVS next week to have a look at a couple of cars.

Good luck in the search - I would not want an SL as a daily driver and VVS seem massively over priced.

I thoroughly enjoyed my SL2 as a Sunday morning car for spirited drives of around 1 - 2 hours. It's not a car I'd like as a daily driver, a LP560 or Huracan would be better suited to this.

is it the stripes or the extra ten horses that turn the 560 into the unsuitable sl2 ? smile

Probably the buckets.... Eech to their own, I fit the buckets perfect and would happily sit all day in them... So glad I'm only 5 ft 9

Yeah me too. I found the racing buckets firm but still comfortable up to a couple of hours. I probably wouldn't fancy doing 3,000 miles across Europe in a week in them though

I had a SL2 in lime green.
They are epic cars and as above seats are a bit firm on long runs but so worth it for one of the best and possibly best ever cars i will ever have the privilege to own.
I see mine has just come back onto the market. One to avoid unless it's had new ceramic discs fitted as mine were 60% worn when i px'd it.Also had wrong rear tyres on it too and possibly front diff on its way out.
Whatever you buy get it checked to avoid big bills.

Look for a 50th and be a proper hairy chested man. When you bang into 3rd and it fish tails you soon realise you made the right choice biggrin

Buckets can be uncomfortable on long runs but they are worth it. They look so much better.

They aren’t really daily cars mainly due to the constant want for petrol. Not to say you can’t use them daily but it does become a pita after a while. Never used mine for this but it would get tiresome really quickly.

Either way they are epic no matter what you choose.

It’s the heaviness of the 4wd system that ruins them biggrin

Apologies to Pants if this seems like a thread hijack but i think it’s relevant to the cars mentioned.

I’m planning to view the JZM car and the yellow one that VVS have. I’m also tempted by a 550/2 but the SL interior is so much better.

I understand the issue with the seats in the SL, is there anything else to consider ? It won’t have to be a daily driver if I don’t want it to be :-)

Can't help you with info on the 2 cars you mention but if you get a 50th Anniversary they kind of have the same interior as the SL (well mine has) but minus the carbon door cards. They are rear wheel drive as well.

Thanks for that, it’s the seats in particular that I’m liking. Hadn’t looked that closely at the 50th anniversary cars before so thanks for that, not that there are that many around though :-)

Thanks

A small update from me, I drove the Superleggera and fell in love, unfortunately someone bought it the following Monday, I've taken it as a sign that I should probably buy a daily before a fun car, so I'm waiting for one of my local Audi dealers to get an RS4 in. I still intend to get one of the two, I'll just wait for the right example to come along.

There’s what appears to be an immaculate Performante Spyder at Motion 8 Leicester if you’re in the market - 2 owners, sensible miles, full PPF. I don’t imagine you’ll find a cleaner more genuine car. No association, seem a professional and friendly firm. Got some nice pork too ;-)
