Hi guys,

Can anyone recommend a good manufacturer/website for an outdoor cover for the Gallardo please? There's a few out there, with varying prices, so not sure where to start..

Cheers,

Matt

Outdoor car covers scratch the paintwork. The wind is rubbing the cover up and down the paintwork for hours on end.

A carcoon or autopod (temporary garage) is better if you have the space and safety.

I have a Coverzone Stormforce cover which I used when I refurbed my garage recently. Car was outside for about 2 weeks. The cover has adjustable straps and clips so you can minimise any movement. Mine didn't suffer any scratching. But I wouldn't keep the Gallardo outside under a cover long term, certainly not without getting the cover off and giving the car a proper airing at least once a week. From memory, Coverzone say the same in their user guide. Biggest issue is moisture between car and cover.

I have never kept my Lamborghini under a cover but I have had various BMWs kept outside under OEM BMW covers for the last 10 years. Yipper is right that they scratch due to movement in the wind particularly on the seams of the cover where it fits tightly to the bodywork. The solution to this I found was to put a soft indoor cover under the outdoor one and then you don't get any scratches (assuming your cover and car is kept fairly clean). I haven't found that the car needs airing regularly and can keep it on for a month or so will no detrimental effects. I generally find you need to spray the cover with a waterproofing solution about once a year otherwise they start to let damp through.

Thanks guys, actually I rather liked the 'pop up' garage thing but my wife did not share my enthusiasm smile

Would you be better off with no cover and thorough multiple layers of good wax. Any moisture will bead off quicker and you only need to keep a watch for bird droppings which the wax would also provide protection until cleared.

You could even go so far as a car wrap to provide protection and get a new colour car. It would also provide a degree of protection from vandals if you were concerned about that.

You could also see if there any garages to rent locally to put it in? Fit a Blokka or similar for added security.
