I am thinking of going back to a Gallardo after having 2 previously. Currently in a McLaren and I am trying to buy a Victorian house that has a garage within the basement level of the house which has a very low ceiling, not great for doors that go up in the air.

In addition it has a narrow doorway which would need modifying for the current car but would just about work with a Gallardo.

Have always missed my Gallardo's and thought a Huracan would be a good next car but after 2 test drives I am not sure.

My options are either an 06 onwards Gallardo manual or a Superleggera either gen1 or LP.

If I went for an earlier car, I don't mind something with a few miles but what is the reliability like on these in terms of engine now that they are a bit older?

What checks are possible for engine health?

Have any needed to be re built? didn't the equivalent R8 engine have some issues?

Many thanks!

The V10 is a very robust engine. Of course there have been some rebuilds, but there are usually factors around the engine letting go such as poor maintenance or turbos bolted onto it!

I'd go for the SL1 - a very special car.

Thanks James, I nearly bought a yellow one a couple of years ago but the car was described as 'mint'.... in reality it needed a fair bit of money spending on it to bring it to mint.

didn't some early ones have issues with cylinder liners ?

Their was one on the 50th tour in 2013 that failed with that I believe.

There's two high(?) milage (circa 50k miles) manual cars for sale at the moment. Looked to be fairly good value to me, but they haven't been snapped up for whatever reason.
If you go and view them, I'd be interested to hear what you think...

eta... this was one of them
