I bought my first My08 gallardo in 2011. I did just over 6k miles in a couple of years. Driven hard on the road, no track days. Sold with under 16k miles.

Tyres changed at 10k miles. Worn out. 1200gbp.
To pass an mot the number plate bulb was changed at 5gbp.
When I sold it, it was still on its original battery, which I top up charged, not trickle charged. And had let go flat enough to not be able to start the car twice.
I changed a rear bulb and fixed washer tube myself.
4yr service done for 2500 at main dealer. Annual after for 1k again at main dealer.
The chap I sold it to used it daily, and by 42k miles, told me all he had to spend was on one clutch and brakes additionally. He said she had been so reliable.

This was a prelp model. Back then it wasn't too old, and I needed to go main dealer as it hadn't been serviced to schedule in first 2 years.

That's so not true - you are literally taking it to extremes. There are many very well respected indy's - and the reality is, many of them have mechanics who have spent years working on the older cars and know them better than the main dealer mechanics who are mostly working on the latest and greatest.

Running it on a shoestring is taking it to Kwikfit and saying : Can you do an oil change?

Taking it to a respected well known indy is an entirely different ballgame and is not "running it on a shoestring". I have a few multiple thousand pound service bills with my 360 which would prove that.

As I said earlier, there will always be the minority who will only ever touch cars with FMDSH - I guess you are in that group.
Agree totally. Have my Gallardo SL serviced at an Indy. It's 11 years old now and I want a mechanic that loves it to take care of it rather than a main dealer 'engineer' who is going to charge for every cloth he uses.
